I prefer to use the Star Wars time line, which declares the Battle of Yavin as year zero, and time is measured either before (BBY) or after (ABY). Since the Battle of Yavin took place in 1977, and a galactic year is 368 days, the year is actually 34 ABY.
Please make a note of it.

Apparently the New Republic Historical Council thought the Battle of Yavin was more important, which is bull, because the Battle of Endor not only ended the galactic civil war, but was also the destruction of the Sith, the fall of the Empire, the rebirth of the Republic, and the foundation of the New Jedi Order.
They have clearly been waiting for signing day at this point. It's pretty damn clear to all but the very stupid. They either have another college coach lined up but promised not to announce it to protect the classes of all schools involved, or it really is a current assistant for the Giants or Patriots and they're not ready to announce until after the Super Bowl. Or it may even be Phil Parker after all.

I don't have a problem with the length of the search. Working in the corporate world I am all too familiar with an open position taking three months to fill. The bottomline for me is that we get the best person available for the job. I hope this means Kirk is truly interviewing several candidates. I will give him credit ... in today's 24/7 news cycle where barely any news is confidential, Iowa has managed to keep the job search under wraps ... I was 95 percent convinced it would be Parker but the fact the search has been extended longer than most of us expected makes me think it could be someone outside of the program... Kirk realizes the importance of this hire ... If he makes the wrong move, in a few years he could be faced with having to go through this again ... I am keeping my Hawkeye-colored blinders on and believe this will be a good hire ...

The movie was in 1977, dum-dum. The actual battle was far in the future, but it took place in an alternate universe, according to Lucas' mythology, so there is no direct mapping to Earth's time scale. Early drafts set it in the 33rd century AD but that notion later disappeared.
Unless Star Wars is real to you, in which case, Jabba says "Baska!"

TMEDCSETP involved 4,638,297 redditors, /b/tards, anons, and various unaffiliated lurkers and trolls simultaneously ignoring this coaching search in favor of desperately seeking the IRL name and address of Tripson the Great. Many of them went to imgur but were only partially satisfied.
Have this on good authority I do.
Oh....and Epiphone Les Pauls also...which only weigh about 6 or 7 pounds but have significantly less sustain and much flabbier string tension than a Jackson Soloist of comparable weight....suck.

What are the first four words that appear in the movie? "A Long Time Ago". Therefore, if we are (foolishly) assuming that the drama portrayed within was real, then it did not happen in the future.
