Tucker’s future up in the air after arrest | GazetteOnline.com

Iowa City Police officers arrested Tucker, 20, at 2:05 a.m. at 100 Hawk Ridge Drive after a dispute with a taxi cabdriver. According to the police complaint, Tucker accused the cabdriver of taking his cell phone and allegedly was beating on the side of the cab. The cabdriver locked his car doors and called police.
The police report described Tucker with bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol. Tucker swayed when he spoke and “had trouble forming logical, understandable sentences and repeated himself frequently.” Tucker was taken to the Johnson County Jail and was released around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after posting a $325 bond. He pleaded not guilty.

Athletics department guidelines mandate an automatic suspension for all athletes arrested on a second alcohol-related offense pending a full alcoholism assessment and 30 hours of community service. A third arrest results in a dismissal.

Sunday morning on his Facebook page Tucker posted “I am outta here” after he was released from jail.

I took the i'm out here as he was leaving iowa, But reading your post he was released at 10:30am, about the same time he posted that on facebook. So maybe he meant that he was out of jail.

Per this post, citing athletic department mandate, it would take 3 alcohol related arrests before an athlete were kicked off the team!

Why wait for another offense, its clear he needs to move on. He doesnt value what he has, he puts himself above the team with this behaviour, and isnt all in. Time to go.

That doesn't make sense. He would have just said, "I'm out"..."I'm outta here" does not make sense if he was just talking about being out of jail.

He gets arrested for being drunk. Spends the night in jail. And the first thing he does when he gets out is post on his facebook? Wow.

I believe a coach can kick a player off after one offense if he wants to, but after a 3rd offense he has to kick him off. Coaches get a lot a disscretion about who they want off a team

It sounds like this situation was a little more than just alcohol if the cab driver felt threatened enough where he had to lock his cab doors. Anger problem too?

He was allegedly hitting the cab.
I don't get that part a whole lot...I mean, really now - a college kid vs a 2,000 pound car .... and the cabbie is scared??? Somebody needs to learn how to use an accelerator...

Maybe he hadn't been paid yet.

Great reporting, stormin. Dochterman would be worried about his job right now...if you lived in Iowa.
