Iowa does have a lot of talent returning that will give them an advantage if they work hard, and we do our best to support them. There are also many incoming players that have the potential to contribute.
On offense there are 3 experienced running backs are returning. All the players that saw significant playing time at receiving last year are returning with the exception of Davis.(There's a reason we targeted so many receivers in this last class) Many incoming players are expected to contribute in the receiving game. Four experienced and productive tight ends return(Iowa did little to nothing with them last year. What makes you think this will changes, especially given we're looking a a new OC). Iowa will have plenty of depth for 2 oven 3 tight end sets. The QB candidates all have impressive resumes and talent(Not one has thrown a collegiate pass. Not one. Think about that). Most importantly all but 2 of the major contributors on the O-line are back. These include one of the Big 10s most dominate tackles in Brandon Scherff.
The defensive line returns 5 players that have contributed as starters. Leading these players will be Alvis and Trinca-Pasat both have proven to be impact players.(You can't be serious. Alvis is about as far from an impact player on the D line than Iowa has had in probably the last decade) The line will be bolstered by two talented and very large redshirt freshmen. Iowa returns all of its linebackers including some of the Big 10s leading tacklers(Given their play last year and our defensive scheme, expect more of the same (which is mediocre play). There are also many defensive backs returning to be led by Law and Lowery. Iowa has some of its best young talent is also coming into its own as DBs.
On special teams, returning starts at kicker, punter and long snapper. There is lots of incoming athletes that should help with coverage. Iowa also returns that conferences leading kick-off returner in Jordan Cotton.
All around this team appears to have what it takes to be successful. Let’s give them all the support they need to make that happen.
I like you're optimism, but I'm afraid you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Every team in the conference will be better next year. Don't forget Wisky and OSU are back on the schedule next year. The team was flat out terrible last year. I think we'll improve (partly b/c it's hard to me any worse than we were last year), but I'm certainly not expecting anything. A bowl game would be a nice surprise IMO.
