Miller: Hawks Roll...Who Are They?

Coker is not a fullback...people are selling his stock WAAAY too early. He is a very productive back who was MIA for quite a bit of fall camp and is just starting to get his legs under him...literally and figuratively.

Come November, I think some of this stuff will look a tad silly ;)

Today Coker looked the best he has all season. The first 3 games I think he looked more like a FB trying to run like a RB, than a true RB. I think if you polled posters here many would concur w/ that statement - not that he should be moved to FB, but that if he had continued the running style we saw the first 2-3 wks and other circumstances continued (the FB's didn't improve and the other RB's were progressing), maybe the staff ought to consider slowly making the transition. The other aspect is that at least on pass plays, Coker delivered some fantastic blocks, particularly last week. He stonewalled blitzers, at least once putting a guy on his back. Coker didn't look terrible the first 3 wks, but I don't think anyone can say he was using the same running style he showed in the Insight Bowl and against OSU. Hopefully by PSU in 2 wks he'll be fully returned to last year's form, which if he continues to improve, seems only another outing away. As many great things as we saw today, this may have been the most important to me. There's a reason so many of us were so high on Coker preseason, and it's great to see he may be coming around.

The Hawks played a lot of cover 3 today. Iowa's defense is more than 2 coverages. Do you trust Tanner Miller one on one in coverage yet? The defense will improve but half the effectiveness of the system players learn it from day 1. The bye week is huge to get Nielsen healthy and lowery back. Ton of nickel today as well.

But will Tanner Miller ever have to play man? He's the FS, and in Norm's system I don't know that the FS is ever in man. Do the Hawks ever play "zero" coverage, w/ nobody over top? They may, but I don't recall them ever doing so under Norm. Do you ever recall Greenwood playing man? Also, when they went nickel today I think they brought in Sleeper and dropped Bernstine down as the nickelback, leaving Miller and Sleeper as the safeties.
