Miller: Dennis Dodd Jumps the Shark

jump the shark is putting it politely. but hey...why worry about federal health laws, right? how responsible is that for a noted journalist, who has been on the board of the FWAA, to encourage people to commit a federal crime so he can write a story?

i want to know Dodd's cholesterol level. as a reader, i need to know if the middle aged bald guy writing the article might die while he's doing his duties. "the public deserves to know"!!!

Great response, Jon. CBS Sports.Com really has no quality standards whatsoever.

good article Jon. I'm still stunned someone would write something that morally reprehensible...after he and people of his ilk questioned Ferentz's morals no less.

Good Point. Nice article Jon. Whens Dodd going to hold his press conference and explain his actions, because his bosses are going to want answers.

The self-important posture of some of these "journalists" is stunning. Laws...privacy...respect for the individuals involved...to hell with it.

Dodd is acting much like a small child would. He throws a tantrum if he doesn't get what he wants, without regard for others.

Yep, Dodd's an idiot. But back to the Fonz. Whoever thought of leaving the leather jacket on for that scene is a genius. A double jump with pinky or leather Tuscadero would've been a nice touch too.

They had to leave the jacket on for 2 reasons...

1. It's The Fonz...the jacket ain't comin' off for NObody!

2. It helped sell people on it not being a stunt man! Cuz, you know...The Fonz didn't need one!

I guess I am a little confused to what Dodd is thinking will come from these hospital leaks. Does he think that the employees were going to have provided a different diagnosis? Maybe he thought that the student interns who looked this crap up were going to have a completed investigation done for him.

The only hope he had was a name getting leaked, however if he a sense of actual "journalism" in him he could have made 5-8 calls and found out most of the names without risking someone's future.

Everyone who knows anything about CBS sports sees that ethics and reporting are the last thing they care about. May as well be TMZ. One last site to ever bother reading.

That seems to be what he was thinking. In the broad sense of the word "thinking".

The Department of Justice is responsible for criminal prosecutions under the Privacy Rule.

Summary of the HIPAA Privacy Rule

ya, but who cares about that...Dodd needs his story.

The scene would have been much better if the Fonz would have landed in the ring with the shark and had to "Ahh" his way out. Better yet, been bitten in half.

That would've been a great way to end the series, which was dead in the water by then anyway.

Jon: Glad to not be the only media critic on this site. I appreciate how you have handled this whole situation. You have been spot on. This seems like something that the BTN and the Iowa J School should go after. Should warrant a suspension at minimum.

Does CBS really want to employ a "journalist" advocating people to break federal law AND intrude on the privacy of hospital patients - which is precisely what his column does?

Has anyone called Dodd out for what he has written, it seems to me Jon, that your article is spot on and someone should call the hack out to answer from his ramblings. Or, does it just not matter??

Read the comments after his hatchet job. There are plenty of people pointing out what a hack he is, and there's a link to Jon's article.
