Miller: B1G/P12 Schedule Relationship Implications

If it is a power move against the disgusting SEC/ESPN bias, is the next move to add the ACC in the fold? B10 ACC challenge is already in place in basketball, why not add another strong non conf opponent for football? That would really stir things up

ACC just signed a long term ESPN deal, so they aren't going to join your anti-ESPN party.

I'd really like to see Iowa State kept on the schedule. It seems pretty easy to set up a two-year rotation that looks like this:

Year A:
MAC team @ Kinnick
Iowa State @ Kinnick
@ PAC-10 team
Sun Belt team @Kinnick

Year B:
Mac team @Kinnick
@ Iowa State
Pac-10 team @Kinnick
Sun Belt team @ Kinnick

That gives Iowa seven home games every year. Yes, the neutral site games throw a monkey wrench into that, but how often would Iowa get a neutral site game, and how often would it fall in a year that we were scheduled to play at home? Sounds like a once in a decade problem. I'll take it.

I do not think this arrangement impacts the annual game against Iowa State at all as basically this eliminates the need for Iowa to schedule a Big East school. The only way I see them dropping ISU is if they go to a 9 game schedule and that appears to be off the books for a while.

I hope they put some kind of Pac 12 vs B1G challenge spin to it for both basketball and football (heck, do it in all sports) that would bring even more attention to it like the B1G/ACC challenge in basketball.

The 2 conferences getting together and creating their own bowl game would be awesome, get rid of the Pizza Bowl.

All kinds of fun options to consider here, it will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

I'm all for getting W's, but the price of these sunbelt teams is getting ridiculous at $1Million+

Delany's Power Play ...

This is not about anything as trivial as schedule strength or one game's ticket revenue. This is Jim Delany (and Larry Scott) taking the first step toward a new world order for college sports. Remember what happened when Delany said the Big10 would think about adding a school? The whole of Division I went crazy, and it has yet to settle down. That pales in comparison to what this could do. This is the first concrete step by a major player toward the forecasted super-conference model. This is the first nail in the coffin of the NCAA as the major college sports governing body. This is an ultimatum to Notre Dame. I understand the concern here than this will nix the Iowa/ISU game, but that's just a tiny ripple compared to some of the other waves this move will create.

yes to everything in this post
