Miller and Deace Podcast-State of Iowa program

Good podcast, Jon. Just one point-you questioned whether those "threatening" not to renew their season tickets would actually follow through with it.

I'm not renewing. And, I've already started that process. Last month I cancelled my automatic monthly donation which went toward my per seat fee. It actually felt pretty good.

Barta lost me when he said the words "bowl championship".

I do think we need a new AD. The relationship between Barta and Ferentz seems to be a little too comfortable. Maybe we should try to get Jeff Long from Arkansas. At least he was smart enough to hire Bielema. Iowa could afford to pay him more.

Another good pod!

All hell will break out if KF is not canned for after another under performing season next season while Rhoads is almost guaranteed to be.

Thank you! And I'm not being sarcastic either.

herkytime - Wish that I could believe that all hell will break lose next year but Jon was dead nuts on in his podcast when he said that Iowa fans are a "Bankable commodity" to the people with the real decision making authority. I would have thought that after THIS year there would have been a revolt similar to that at Michigan, with a crowd of 5,000 chanting with fire and pitchforks in Sally's front yard....but sadly, Iowa folk have become just too loyal to the brand and cannot figure out that causing a ruckus is the ONLY course of action left. Because lets face it, the 65,000 that will blindly file into Kinnick again next Fall aren't helping the situation for the millions of other Hawk fans around the country that want this s*** fixed now!!!

Let me guess....you don't have season tickets, and have probably never had them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your not a fan, you don't have to go to games to be a fan. I'm saying it seems to me that those saying that the "fans should march" or "fans should revolt" and not pay for the product are those who currently don't pay for the product anyway. Those 65,000 that file into Kinnick are spending their money they way they want, and like JD says in the podcast I'm never going to tell people how to spend their money, or use their time. I will say that our group decided NOT to renew our tickets and it saddens me greatly. Going to Kinnick is about spending time with people that I only get to see those 7 Saturdays a year, and not only about the game.

For years, I used to read about Iowa fans mocking and ridiculing Steve Deace on Iowa message boards, mainly because of his allegiance to the Cyclones.
These podcasts with Jon and Steve are great to listen to, and gives you, IMO, an unfiltered viewpoint of where the Iowa and Iowa State athletic programs are, according to their respective fan bases.
BTN should have hired Steve Deace instead of LeCharles Bentley, back in the days.

deanvogs - No, I am not a season ticket holder....I live 900 miles from Iowa City. However, I have traveled to several bowl games, and have supported my local I Club Game Watching Group for almost 30 years now. Why couldn't the people sitting on the fence but still wanting to file into Kinnick in lockstep to support KF simply refuse to renew their tickets, and purchase them via a different avenue? I know, I know...too much hassle..."we've never done it that way before....we don't want to sit somewhere." Ok, fine...then don't be b****ing and moaning as you are filing out of Kinnick after losing to some cupcake.

Move closer to Iowa City!!! Buy season tickets and then don't renew them. Simple solution.

Still funny whenever Jon talks about this arranged marriage by the BTN, that was shorter than Britney Spears and Jason Alexander.
BTN still has its issues. I'm not as critical as Steve is on the BTN, but it still makes good coin.

State of the Iowa program:
Iowa has sold 2,500 tickets to Jacksonville.
Minnesota has sold 5,500 tickets to Orlando.
Remember, Minnesota was in Nashville 3 times, and averages about 1,000 fans each time.
This was the main reason why the Music City Bowl got out of the Big Ten connection years ago.

Some of that is Iowa ticket office taking on fees that make Ticketmaster blush.
Most of it is the "state of Iowa program."

Pretty sure I heard Tennessee sold out its 15,000 allotment already.

Allotment for the Taxslayer Bowl was only 6,000 tickets for each school.
They did sell out of those, and did receive more tickets.
I didn't see 15K, at this point, but am very confident that at least 15K Tennessee fans will show up.

Also, through University of Tennessee, the University sells the tickets for $60 each.

UIowa is selling them, starting at $105.
