Mike said Iowa wants to play fast with Indiana

I know hawks can play that game but I don't think it's necessary. I like our chances even more if they slow it down and take quality shots and limit Indiana's possessions. Uthoff is a walking mismatch, so why not slow it down and limit the opponent's chances. I think if hawks keep them under 70, we could win by double digits. If Iowa wants a shootout, I still think the hawks will win, but by a smaller margin 84-80 maybe

Thoughts?

Our offense is as good as Indiana's...probably better if it weren't a home game for Indiana. But our defense is much better than Indiana's...anywhere. I think the Hawks win this one on the defensive end...regardless of the game pace.

Because it allows you to control the pace of the game and can be mentally exhausting to opposing teams. It should be an interesting game as Indiana likes to do the same thing.

In addition, a successful running team can have an effect on the rebounding game for a team. If Iowa pushes the pace, it may cause some of Indiana's players to say screw with rebounding to get back to defend. This is what happened with Illinois. Iowa was virtually running every time down the court, on a miss or make, and putting pressure on Illinois. Illinois didn't even attempt any offensive rebounds on their missed shots. They were concerned with getting everyone back.

Iowa controlled both the boards and the pace of the game just by pushing the ball. It's the game within the game and it can play in the heads of players.

I really hope we get in a running game with them, we are deeper and better. I also hope we slap on the 3/4 court press every possession, haven't seen an opponent yet that hasn't turned the ball over a ton when we do.

Jesus H Christ, who in the hell isn't excited for this game? Damn, another 7.5 hours before tip.....

Wondering if that 3/4 court press would help slow Yogi down a little too? Thoughts?

They will throw some 3/4 at them but not sure we will see it much just bc Yogi is so good. It was very effective vs PU and MSU among others but neither have a pg anywhere in Yogi's stratosphere.

I love the 3/4 press whenever they can run it. The extra time it takes off the shot clock forces the other team to be less patient with their offense, not to mention the occasional turnover it causes.

I think the 1/2 court 1-2-2 would be effective with him with the length of Iowa's wings. I worry with the 3/4 of giving him too much room to zip down the floor. The 1-2-2 would crunch that a bit and the out-of-bounds and 1/2 court line will become defenders. I think we might see that.

Excellent point. It's not always about steals. Often done to take time off, especially now that the clock is 30 seconds. Iowa has such a versatile team with its players.

Yogi averages 34 minutes per game. I think if you can get some pressure and really work him it couldn't hurt. I especially like the 3/4 press when Baer is in. He acts like Aaron white at the front of that press. Tall and lanky and can really interrupt passing lanes. Iowa has more depth...or at least plays more people.

I love the 3/4 press but Illinois found some openings in it and I'm sure indiana cam break it. Id do it but somewhat passively

This is why I like the 1/2 court 1-2-2. But, what zone would they fall back into with Indiana's outside shooting? I suppose better put that into perspective.

I'm sure we'll see some variety like always. And Fran will use what's working the majority of the time. But that's the nice thing about a veteran team. We can run a different defense every trip down the floor and the guys know where they are supposed to be. And the young guys should be soaking up all of that basketball IQ on the floor...to make them better prepared for next year.

We're really good at taking away the three so I'm sure Fran will figure something out. I like woodbury poking Bryant in the eye then have all our lanky guys get in the way of their shooters.

Word on the street is that the Indiana players are all sporting these bad boys tonight.

Also to tire out the opponent's main ball handler as they have to do a lot more against a press than just walk it up the floor.
