Mike Hlas' Take on the Dolph matter.

Let's just show a clip of that article, shall we?

“That’s Danan,” Hawkeyes football coach Hayden Fry said at the time. “He thinks he is King Kong.”

I strongly hesitated to use that quote here because of fears someone, somewhere will label Fry as racially insensitive.

But if they do, they won’t have to wait long for dozens, nay, hundreds of former Fry players, colleagues and friends who are African Americans to call them fools and far worse. So will older folks in Texas who remember how Fry infuriated legions of bigots when, in 1965 as SMU’s coach, he was the first Southwest Conference coach to give a black football player an athletic scholarship.

Fry caught a lot of hate for that, even from some SMU supporters.

Also, Fry said this in 1990: “When you know you’re gonna be good, you don’t want to go out there and boast. That’ll make the guys think they’re King Kong and screw up.”

He was referring to all his players.

Fry often used the phrase “King Kong.” He liked to say it about smaller players who had no fear battling larger ones. I can’t find documentation online, but I’d bet he used it at some point about Tim Dwight.

Reminds me of the time where Howard Cossell got in trouble for calling a player a little monkey.

When questioned about it later, he was like, I call my grandchildren little monkeys. But nobody got fired or suspended for those remarks back then.

Now more recently Rosanne Barr got fired for making some insentive remarks.

I guess now its known you can't call somebody King Kong or you will get suspended. The times, they are a changin.

From the article: "Let’s all strive to be brighter than dim."

PC police: That is a racial statement. Why is "brighter", which everyone knows is equated to 'white' better than "dim?" and we all know dim is a derogatory ethnic term."

You see how stupid this can all get? Barta just made Iowa a laughing stock talking point. But hey, Iowa voted for Trump and Dolphin is white, so it's obviously Trumps fault.

See how it all works, now, folks? And I am a minority so you can't ban me. ;)

PC / SJW thought control will be the end of society unless people start standing up to this nonsense. It all started with the media-concocted, Obama-inflamed, make-believe "race wars" that began when Barry inserted himself into the otherwise local Trayvon Martin story.

Dolphin won't be the last victim. In other news, my friend's co-worker, who had an otherwise stellar track record at work, was just fired because at a team-building exercise, when asked what he would be if he weren't in his current job he wrote "007" on the dry-erase board. When asked why, he laughingly said, "so I can be an assassin." The next day his female boss called him into her office and fired him for "violent talk in the work place." No warning, no discussion. He has a wife and five kids and will get no severance benefits. He was Dolphin'd.

Want your "desires to be an assassin" subordinate to murder you? Cuz that's how you get your "desires to be an assassin" subordinate to murder you. ;)

Or at least that's what I would do. Not right away, of course. Gotta wait a few months.

"Ok, Henry, you are next, you have had a stellar career here as a up and coming CPE and potential CIO. If you weren't into numbers who would you want to be here at the company?"

"I am glad you asked that question, Marge. I was thinking about this last night as I was reading the NY Times. I have always wanted to head the EO (Equal Opportunity) department at our company."

"Thanks for your amazing answer Henry, you are for sure, destined for greatness."

"That's my goal! Wait, I want all to do the same, I don't want to think I will do better than others."

"Now you are catching on."

I'm trying. Got a Dolph shirt store set up http://store.jesterapparel.com/free_dolph/shop/home
and I also got a group page https://www.facebook.com/groups/395714980991610/

This thing really has gotten me mad. Thinking about not renewing my season donor football tickets.

dolph needs to be standing at the top of the empire state building with WWI vintage airplanes circling him.

Edit: It just occurred to me that barta just recreated the story line of King Kong. He just made Dolph the misunderstood King Kong. He forced Dolph to run to the top of the (metaphoric) Empire State building where barta's forces are attacking Dolph because he believes he knows what was in Dolph's mind and heart.

You may want to take a look at the increase in hate crimes and the number of active hate groups in the last 2-3 years. If you do not think racism is a difficult problem in the US, your head is in the proverbial sand.

statistics are what they are. there is no doubt that hate still exists throughout the world. i am not jewish, but the below article sheds some light on hate crime increases. it doesn't completely explain, but provides some insight. it appears that some police departments were not reporting hate crimes, but started to do so, again, in 2017. that counts for part of the rise in statistics. hate crimes against jews has skyrocketed.

https://www.jta.org/2018/11/13/united-states/hate-crimes-jews-rise-37-fbi-reports

also, i think the point hawkleberry was trying to make is hate crimes as a political/control weapon. no one with a conscience would not want to do away with all hate and all crimes. but human beings are fallible, so we need to each work on ourselves to be the best human we can be.

i'll say again, the university of MD and bruno were not even aware of the comment until barta blew the horn, publicly. how could UMD or bruno have been offended? who, besides dolph knows what was in his mind, heart and motivation?

Fair points

I distinctly remember during an Iowa game a radio announcer describe one of Greg Stokes' dunks as a "ghetto blaster." There may have been a few people voicing concern afterwards but that was it. Life went on. Point is that employers of all kinds view their subordinates as being at will, contract or not. Someone is wanting Gary out, just like any other job.

It's that Hassel guy!

....by the way...........

has anyone contacted the university after the Maryland game and actually said that they were offended?

...that's what I thought..

We know what this is really about. This is them putting the hammer down on a guy who wasn't as complementary as they'd like

My thoughts. The king kong reference means the player is the baddest SOB on the court. That's my thought on the reference.

We see this all the time anymore. Someone takes someone else's remark and uses a razor thin rationale to gain some advantage in a situation.

I don't know Dolph personally, like most others I have enjoyed his presence on the air. I know racism, racist language. I have had it directed at me. This isn't racism.

What I see here is there is someone behind this who is making a personal attack on Dolph. They don't like him and they are going out of their way to stomp him down.
