Mike Hlas Podcast with Beth Mowins

I'm not a fan of her announcing but she was a good interview on this weeks podcast with Hlas. She sounds like she does a good job of preparing for the upcoming broadcasts and takes her job seriously. She is certainly smart and understands people don't like her doing games but was pretty confident in her ability. I had no idea she had been as ESPN as long as she had. I do think her being paired with Joey Galloway really hurts because he isn't good at all. Still not a fan of her calling college games but it's worth a listen. Of course, listen to Miller & Deace first. :D

The worst part of listening to that podcast would be hearing her voice. Is there a transcript I could read instead? Who am I kidding, I wouldn't read it anyway. I am only going to listen to her if I have to, which unfortunately because I can't make the game, means I will listen to her on Saturday, and anytime I watch the reply.

I am convinced that some men overreact to female announcers in the negative...and that it is linked to mommy issues. She is not the best, but the game is the thing, not the announcers.....if she was not professional, ESPN would have dumped her years ago. I am male, but this is the type of stuff that women have to put up with, and it is not right. There are plenty of dumb-arse male announcers who get a pass....is it the female timbre of her voice or her play by play or her analysis?

I agree with 2 things from above:

1) Joey Galloway is terrible. He is much worse than even Beth herself.
2) Men overreact to femal announcers in the negative

I would be interested if they would actually put Beth with a decent color guy. I'm not saying it would be good but I wouldn't go out of my way to complain.

I don't think this is it because she has a very manly voice.

This x 1000.....not going to touch the Freudian stuff, but what do you expect it is Iowa/Ball St. give me some monotone chick doing play by play any day of the week over some dude trying to be hip dropping pop culture references and rattling off catch phrases.

Agree with both. I can't stand Galloway.

Can't people say she is bad without being accused of being anti female announcers? There are plenty of posts about male announcers being bad and no one accuses them of anything.

It's that she sux. And Galloway does too. You sound like you been hanging out in Sally's box too much.

Exactly, I almost can't believe what I'm reading above. Mommy issues? Um no, she is just an announcer I don't like listening to. There are male announcers I don't enjoy listening to, JG is one of them. Does that mean I have daddy issues too? What a joke.

What does she do that makes her so much worst than the guy last week?

Does she not describe the action accurately?

Guess I am just not that caught up in the announcing aspect....I know Chuck did the color on our game, and Jones did the play by play.....was Jones that much better?

I guess it is just me....two women have done Big Ten football in my memory, Ward and Mowins...and both are disliked by many fans...so I guess it is a 100% failure rate for women....what is the failure rate on the men?

Just a coincidence , I guess.

Maybe it will be better this year, but last it seemed ESPN dumped all their worst talent on the Beth Mowins team. Galloway is horrible. The camera shots, producers, graphics, fact checkers all horrible. It was not just their B team but their worst team ESPN could possibly assemble. Reminds me of Season 1 of the wire when the police dept formed a new special investigations task force and all the other departments sent their rejects to fill the new positions.
