Mid-Majors

Did anyone else notice that of 3 teams seeded 1-4 that did not come from the 'power' conferences, none of them made the Sweet 16? I spell overrated G-O-N-Z-A-G-A. Of the 13 'power' conference teams seeded 1-4, 5 are already in the Sweet 16 and up to 6 more could make it today.

Why is this worth celebrating? Who roots for the major conference teams in the tournament?

An observation not a celebration, although I am tired of the Gonazaga story. I root for the B1G teams in every game they play, expecially when it is against the Clones.

I do if they aren't playing Iowa.

If you didn't root for Butler, George Mason and VCU in the Final Four then I think you are not a basketball fan or like the NCAA tournament.

So we have to be bandwagon fans? I don't normally root for certain teams although I like seeing conference affiliated teams doing well. Sure mid-major teams advancing are a story, but not the only one. I watch for entertainment value and to see good competition not to jump on the band wagon of come mid-major that won't be around long-term.

Ok, let me clarify, there are ones that I root for and if they advance that far then I root for them.

Why do I care if they are around long-term, that is part of being a mid-major a lot of them are a flash in the pan because of how their conferences are set up and if they lose in their tournament they are done.

I like the stories, but I have no affiliation to anyone but Iowa when it comes to the NCAA tournament, there are teams outside the Big Ten I like to see do well, ISU is not one of them.

Mid-majors advancing as far as the aforementioned teams, how can you not root for them, it is what the NCAA tournament is about, everyone has a chance on equal ground.

I don't consider pulling for a team in the tournament a bandwagon fan.

When I pull for a North Carolina to beat Kansas I'm not really a North Carolina "Fan," I'm just hoping they win this particular game.

I don't root for them because save for Wichita and Creighton, I don't think there were many mid majors in this tournament who were much better than the 6 and 7 seeds in the Big Ten Tournament, both of whom were left out to make way for the likes of Boise Freaking State. Hey mid majors, when your one seed gets pantsed at home by Illinois, you ain't that good. When one of your other chosen children gets rolled by Harvard in round 1, you ain't that good. When one of your "big guns" gets rolled by 12 seed Oregon, you pretty much suck. The only mid major that was properly seeded was Iowa State.

It really means you detest UNC less than Kansas.

I don't root for upsets past the first round because I want the best teams in the final four. I don't want to watch a ****** Butler team struggle to score 40 points in the title game. I like watching future NBA players and decent teams in the finals.

So you were upset Wisconsin, G-Town and New Mexico lost because they are the more talented teams?

I would have much rather seen a New Mexico - Arizona game, then the Arizona-Harvard rout yesterday.

I would have rather seen North Mexico get a proper seed like say a 4 at best and Iowa get the spot Boise had at 13 and for the Hawks to have knocked North Mexico out of the tourney.
