Michigan would beg to have Rich Rod back

Imagine if Michigan kept Rich Rod....There is no way Iowa can keep up with their offense when it is running like the well oil machine was running last night. Arizona's QB is only a freshman too. I am glad that they are no longer on the schedule....It was a bummer to see the stat when they took down #9 Iowa back in 2010 during the game.

It would be nice to be in the top ten again.

Rodriguez needed several years to recruit and develop the type of players he needed to run his offense at Michigan. I think after his first bad year, the pressure in Ann Arbor forced him to slightly detour from his original design plan, creating more chaos.

The success that Hoke had in his first year with Rich Rod's players is proof that things were about to get really exciting at Michigan. The only thing Rich Rod lacked was a solid "Michigan-style" defense, but if I remember correctly he had been emphasizing improved defense through his recruiting that last year.

I was at the Iowa/Michigan game in Ann Arbor in 2010. Before and after the game, we tailgated with these great Michigan fans. They had a daughter who was an intern in the Michigan Football offices, and they raved about how what a great guy Rich Rod was, and how dedicated he was to the program and winning, and how respectful and appreciative he was to everyone who worked around him. They said his work ethic was impeccable and that should he be given the time, that he would be the next great Michigan coach. He was fired that fall. Rich Rodriguez probably wishes he had never left WVU, but at least he is finding success at Arizona.

yeah I don't think Michigan regrets showing him the door. They just regret who they hired to replace him.

so he won one big game (ok 2 counting last year's Oregon game :))?
Arizona's record under RR:

2012 8-5 (4-5)
2013 8-5 (4-5)
2014 5-0 (2-0)
overall 21-10 (10-10)

he was 15-22 (6-18) at Michigan.

He fits down at Zona.....did not fit at Michigan. Spread football does not work in the elite programs, as the defense is never good enough to stop the other elite power systems like Bama. It works better in the Pac 12 and Big 12....passing leagues. Just an ill-fit from the git-go for Michigan....Arizona is perfect for DickRod.

Ever heard of Urban Meyer bro?

Rich Rod should have played offense his first year with some of Carr's pro style offense and some of his style offense.

The other Rich Rod problem was he was offensive minded and didnt give much time or thougth to defense and the Mich fans want to see blowouts and total control.

Why? He got hired because he was great at the spread, there was no reason he should have tried to change that because of what the previous coach ran. He should have implemented his system as soon as possible, offense wasn't the problem when he was at Michigan.

The defensive shelf was empty and buried deep into the ground. If RR was able to bring in a competant defense then they would have been at the top of the big ten for years.

The program was improving at Michigan. Their best year in the last ten years was with his players after he left....RR also took WVU to a sugar bowl after two double digit win seasons...Then after he left they became average if not a bad team. RR is a good coach

He wasn't just "great at the spread", the guy basically invented the spread offense. The thing that people don't understand about Rich Rod and the spread is people just automatically assume it's a pass happy offense. Quite the contrary actually. He runs the ball like crazy out of his spread. For example, they had over 200 yds rushing last night against Oregon.

Rich Rod's problems at Michigan were two-fold. One, the Lloyd Carr crew within the athletic department didn't like him at all and, from what I understand, tried to undercut him at every turn. Two, he couldn't get the defensive side of the ball settled. His biggest blunder was firing Scott Shafer after his first year. That defense ended up being the best under Rich Rod at Michigan. Once he brought in Greg Robinson to replace Shafer and let Robinson employ that crazy 3-3-5 defense, his goose was cooked.

The 3-3-5 was Rich Rod's defense he brought over from West Virginia.

Iowa was 2-0 against Mich when Rich Rod was coach.

2009 Iowa beat Mich 30-28 in Iowa City.
2010 Iowa beat Mich 38-28 in Ann Arbor.

So I dont know what the original poster meant when he said Mich took down #9 Iowa. He never beat Iowa.

Offense was never the problem at Mich under Rich Rod. The problem was his defense was awful. He insisted on running a 3-3-5 which in theory would have been good against other spread teams, but the power running teams of the Big Team just plowed through that line easily.

I don't know what type of defense he is running at arizona, but if he is still running the 3-3-5, which is designed to stop the spread, then that could explain why he has beaten Oregon twice but has mediocre success against other teams.

that's what they are running at Arizona...and it's perfect for Oregon. Stanford is drooling right now though.

He didn't say Michigan took down #9 Iowa, he said Arizona did.
