Michigan State At Wisconsin

As long as Iowa beats Wisky in Iowa city (and they should be fairly good favorites to do so) and goes 6-1 vs the rest, Wisky stays on IOWAs rearview mirror.

Yep. The Michigan at Ohio State game is going to be a big one...could impact 2nd through 5th before all is said and done.

But they don't so.....

I was commenting on their 8 final fours under Tom Izzo and his ability to get his players to compete.

I guess you are Dr. Literal... because of course I would think believing you are going to win every game means you will win every game..

obviously..

Looks like Wisconsin got a gem in Nigel Hayes. Where the heck did that kid come from?! Seemed like he drew a fouls every time he touched the ball.

Michigan State Basketball under Izzo = Repetitive Thuggery. It is based on the premise that psychologically an official wouldn't and couldn't possibly call a foul on every play. You need a good bench (4 bench players in the rotation = 20 fouls to give) and you teach a grab and push defense that dumbs down the officiating to only calling those fouls that nearly draw blood, or in fact do draw blood.

This has been the recipe for beating Iowa. I believe Izzo coaches to a physicality meter. If the team is ahead and hitting shots, they play to sporadic thuggery. When you are down in the last ten minutes, in the huddle Izzo requests the maximum level of physicality, and some teams melt.

How do you stop this style of play? You can turn the other cheek and continue to play your game...or you can punch the freaking bully in the mouth. We've turned the other cheek and look at our record against MSU. Time to punch the bully. Fran, you have a deep bench...tell the second team guys to play as physical as possible...use up Woody (he likes it) and McCabe as the enforcers. If those two don't have 8-9 fouls by the 7 minute mark of the second half, I'll be disappointed.

Agree that MSU gets away with physical plays in the B1G, then in tourney times some refs will call them out. Notice that Payne was foul out a lot during the summer games with White, international refs don't play that game. Also, Harris was called for a travel on his way to the lay up in the first half (I missed 2nd half); however, even in open court at Carver, the refs was blind and mute.
