Michigan named Big Ten football favorite

I think Lovie just assumed if he could run a professional team a college team wouldn't be all that different.

He was good, but not great. Won the NFC north 3 times in 9 years and made it to a Super Bowl. Peaked early. Stunk at Tampa Bay. Unfortunately Illinois athletics are pretty flat line...its gonna take somebody pretty dynamic (and some funny money) to revive them.

I've always liked Lovie. He was wrong place/wrong time and to be honest has been in an impossible situation.

I'd take that guy as an Iowa assistant in a heart beat. He made a pretty spectacular turnaround with the Rams defense as coordinator while he was there.
I wouldn't take him as an assistant. I think he is a good x and o defensive guy, but I don't think he has a clue about teaching fundamentals. Programs like Northwestern and Iowa absolutely embarrass Illinois in terms of fundamentals.

This whole infatuation with Nebraska by the media is just plain stupid. Until they can field a defense, they won't be winning any division titles anytime soon.
I wonder what the actual time spent was thinking about this by any writer before casting a vote.

They have been accurate two out of the last eight. If it comes down to Iowa and Nebby in the West, my money is on Iowa. That is especially true if it comes down to head to head competition.

I haven’t seen the schedule to see if we play them or not but I’m picking Iowa is we do. I also have to say given the last ten years results, that Nebby isn’t my concern. It’s Wisconsin I am concerned about.

Are you asking above if we play Nebby this year? That is what your post reads like. Yes we play them in our division.

Yes, that was my question. I glimpsed at the predictions and I didn’t see them showing a prediction of Nebraska against Iowa which seemed strange so I thought is it possible we aren’t playing them for some reason.

No we play them the last game of the year when the hawks will kick their ass. I think starting in 2020 the Wisconsin game is the last game of the year for about 4 years.

The game is at Michigan this year.

Well that gives Harbaugh a better chance but his Wolves have been less than stellar in the big rivalry games. They were better last year so maybe they are trending toward an East Division title.

I thought the commentary at the end of the game against Illinois last year from J Leman was interesting. Just listening to the guy go through the roster and be able to name the high school each kid went to and knowing their biographies like it was no big deal, like a super passionate fan would know this kind of stuff. He seemed to indicate that the school just wants a coach that will stay out of trouble. I get the idea he (J Leman) may want to work for Illinois someday and couldn't really let out his real opinion of the job Lovie is doing.

Anyway, I don't think anyone believes Lovie is getting it turned around but the school wants a guy who stays out of trouble.

J wants to be an infomercial star actually.

He is doing nothing to support that he wants to be a coach.

They also have an AD in over his head with repeated bad hires.

Nathan ScheeIlhouse is a possibility down the road being vonnected to the rise of ISU ....maybe.

Michigan and Nebraska win so many off season division titles. Just because urban left, doesn’t mean Ohio state left the east. Urban didn’t take all the players, the playbook and all the assistants with him. Schiano is gone too, and that always helps.

Agreed. Ohio St still has the most talented team in the Big Ten, and its really not even that close.
