Michigan at Nebraska

Nebraska had a great opportunity to upset Michigan tonight. Michigan went ahead by 1 with approx 10 seconds left. Petteway missed a contested runner and then I think it was Smith who missed a fairly easy tip in at the last second. Final was Mich 71, Neb 70. Wish the 'skers could have pulled this off. Any loss for a top 6 B10 contender would help our cause.

Still no one has yet pulled a great upset, and esp. a good road upset. I am hoping the Hawks are the first this Sunday:)

I recorded it and watched the end. I told my wife and son that watching Nebraska at the end of that game felt like I was watching Iowa and both agreed. An 87% free throw shooter for Nebraska makes the 1st and misses the 2nd with less than a minute to go. Michigan's freshman PG drives to the basket and charges...but it's called a block and the basket counts. He misses the free throw. Nebraska holds for the last shot down 1. Petteway drives and misses a bit of a wild shot. Nebraska misses an uncontested tip in at the rim and another wild tip at the buzzer.

Michigan will lose some games. I think Nebby is better than people are giving them credit for.

Michigan will likely be 4-0 and then comes the rain.

@ Wisconsin
Iowa
@ Michigan State

Purdue
@ Indiana
Nebraska

More rain...

@ Iowa
@ Ohio State
Wisconsin
Michigan State
@ Purdue (after those last 4 will be tough)

Minnesota
@ Illinois
Indiana

Edit - Looks like 9-9 to me...5-9 after the 4-0 start.

Windsor, I agree. Really did feel like an Iowa game. I actually thought Walton's charge/block was a block and the refs got it right. Let me specify, it was a block under the "new" rules. Whether or not they called the "new" rules all game I'm not sure.

It was close and at live speed it could have gone either way. Of course following the Iowa theme it went against Nebraska. And it didn't really matter because they had a point blank tip for the win.

Off topic - ESPN flashed the list of unbeaten teams on the screen...like they seem to do every 5 minutes. My son says "I want all of those teams to lose. I'm sick of that list popping up on the screen every night." I can't say that I disagree.

Not that it doesn't get annoying, but it is relevant. It's seems pretty unusual to have so many unbeaten teams left this deep into the season.

Relevant to a fan of the teams that are still unbeaten. Basketball fans in general wont give a damn until a team gets deep into conference play and is still undefeated. Wichita State has the best chance to make a run at being undefeated going into the big dance. With Creighton gone I dont think there is anybody that will beat them in the MVC.

I thought it was a block under any rules. I wanted the Huskers to pull it off, but that guy wasnt set by any means

Like most any season in the BIG in recent years it will be the team's that can win on the road that will begin to create separation and contend. I think any road win in this conference is a good one regardless of opponent or how you get the job done.

Hats off to MI, OSU, MSU, and MN for getting it done this week so far. Hope we can do the same. If we can't win in similar environments then we will likely find ourselves in the middle of the standings somewhere once again.

Dumb.

Agreed, but the road wins for those teams have come against Purdue, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Penn St. It is going to be important to win road games against the lesser teams in the conference, losing on Sunday, even by double digits, should be expected and is not a reason for a meltdown.

No. How many fans outside of the undefeated teams fanbase is really going to give a rip they havent lost yet until we get into late February? Not many I am guessing.

Do you most college basketball fans really care that Wichita, Syracuse, Zona, Wisky and ISU havent lost a game yet on January 10th?

People will start to care if there is an unbeaten still about 5 weeks from now.

Please enlighten us on why this matters. Sure it matters to people who are fans of the school, but not too many people after that. Why would a B1G fan care how long Wichita St stays undefeated? Answer is, they don't.

You're absolutely right....probably not to you and your brethren Tavern Hoks....myopically looking only within our borders.

For those of us true college BB fans, it draws our attention to the school, if not just for a bit, and, what is going on there to make them undefeated.
(Who are the players, coaches, story lines, big games coming up). There is always something to glean of interest.

Same goes for me in football as well after the 6th week or so. Who's making the noise, and why.

No harm in ignoring all of that. It's OK for in-state ostriches to exist...I just hope you guys don't run out of on-tap PBR.

So tell me then Mr. College Basketball, who are some of the top players for WSU and Cuse? Quick, without checking ESPN.com.

Iowa played WSU last year, so Iowa fans know their team. Early, the juco forward, is a fabulous player. Fred VanVleet, their soph pg from Rockford, Ill. is a guy I saw in HS and wanted the Hawks to recruit him. He was 1st team all-state in Illinois, and no big ten team pursued him...mistake..the kid is nails tough.

As for Cuse, they have Fair, who is one of the best players in the country, and a number of other top players.

No Ron Baker mention? Love that kid's game.
