Michael Vick - Let it go

I agree

However my point is that if it were Michael Vick drowning rats, people wouldn't be nearly as upset about this.

Its the fact that its dogs, which is something that means a lot to people, sometimes too much to people.

He's absolutely NOT paid his debt. Big f'n deal if he went to jail; he should've been there longer. The guy is sociopath. At the very least he should have never been allowed back in the league.

You know enough about him to know that he's a sociopath? Are you his psychiatrist?

Look, I was sickened by what he did, too. But he didn't murder human beings. He should not be treated as though he did. He served his sentence, let him move on with his life. You can hate him I guess, but don't be one of those people that would protest his presence in the league (if you had the opportunity). It's in the past, he's trying to turn his life around. If that's what he really wants to do (turn his life around), then people should be doing what they can to help him do that. Or do we as people need someone to tear down all the time, and don't want to lose a target?

Look, you obviously weren't sickened by what he did. He didn't murder human beings, but obviously behavior that often precedes such crimes (torturing/killing animals) is of no concern to you. You can like him I guess, but don't be one of those people who would support him b/c you think he "did his time". It's beyond horrible what he did; NO ONE should so much as p*** on his head if it was on fire to help him out. Or do we as people need someone to coddle and make excuses for?

He's spent quite a bit of time talking with Tony Dungy since the whole dogfighting saga, and Dungy has been a guy that several athletes have talked to looking for help. He's also kept his nose pretty clean.

I guess I'm a guy that prefers to give someone the benefit of the doubt. I'm not going to dismiss him as a sociopath who is going to kill someone someday because he engaged in "behavior that often precedes such crimes".

Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. Forgiveness should be something we all embrace. Vick certainly seems to be trying to move forward. I'm willing to forgive him and let him try to turn things around.

A lot of people pretty upset over an animal. Probably okay with abortion though.

Americans are goofy about dogs, thats why there was such a big deal made out of it.

I have dogs and care about them a lot, so I get it. But there are some people who treat dogs like their human beings, which they aren't.

Thats why you see people who think Vick murdered someone.

+1

too many way too damn goofy about dogs/pets/animals!

IMO, everyone needs to spend some time on a farm. I had raised 4H calves, bottle-fed them, trained them, groomed them, spent a lot of time with them. Then we ate them, and they were yummy. I also had hogs named Bacon and Hambone, and they tasted great, too. I don't think animals should be abused, dogfighting is wrong, but animals aren't people! You people who are apeshit ****** at Vick need to get over yourselves.

I don't care who he was talking to or that he kept his nose clean. It's likely a facade with the goal of convincing both the public and league that he's a reformed man. Not buying it.

I didn't say he was going to "kill someone some day", but if you don't believe that hanging, electricuting, shooting and drowning dogs because they weren't profitable is sociopathic behavior than you're crazy.

Bottom line...Would Vick have stopped had he not been busted? Most likely not. Would Vick have "spent quite a bit of time talking with Tony Dungy" or "kept his nose pretty clean" were he banned from ever playing in the league again? Again, most likely not. Would you be voicing your support for Joe Schmoe and his unfair branding as a murderer and torturer of animals? My money says no.

Shortcut to thinking.

I honestly am glad I don't live life looking through such cynical eyes as you do. That's got to be miserable, not being able to believe that a guy could be making an honest effort to change his life.

What will you say if Vick never does anything more than getting the occassional speeding ticket or pubic intox like the rest of the world? If I'm wrong, sure, I'll feel like a fool. But I'd rather feel like a naive fool than a self-righteous a**.

I honestly am glad I don't live life looking throw rose colored lenses as you do. It must be exhausting distorting and downplaying reality to create your own.

I will still say Michael Vick is beyond trash. I'd rather be a realist than another American who suffers from cranial rectal syndrome.

Do you seriously have nothing better to do than mock others around here? You really are a person that needs SOMEONE to tear down. You seem to get your jollies out of looking down at others from your high horse.

Even if Vick truly felt remorse for his actions, you'd still want to condemn him. Even if in the eyes of God, Vick repented and was truly sorry for what he's done, you would never forgive him. THAT is a pretty sad commentary on your life.

So you lived on a farm and ate the animals you raised? Good for you!

That has nothing to do with being sickened and angered by the actions of dogfighting and animal abuse.

This is one of those things that drives me crazy about the people who look their nose down at people who care about dogs/cats/whatever. I am a dog lover and work at a shelter. I know many people like me who spend alot of their free time taking care of animals who are abused and neglected. It's something we care about deeply. Not ONCE have I ever heard someone say they love these animals more than their kids or families or people in general (although there are certain folks who I like being around a helluva lot less than my dogs). Not once. But we care about the cause and we've seen firsthand what dogfighting and abuse have done. It's disgusting and from my experience, most of the guys that go to jail for it or are prosecuted for it only show remorse because they feel they have to. Vick, to me, has acted in the same way as the punks who have been arrested and taken to jail for the crime. My shelter has ended up with several of these dogs and I have personally had to testify as to what I saw on 2 occasions. Most of the time these idiots just end up back on the streets selling drugs or worse or in a lot of cases back into the whole dogfighting world, sadly. yeah, they all were "sorry" for what they did, too.
Vick just happened to be able to play football and is in the public eye so he has to stay away. I don't think he really cares all that much about dogs.

I hope for his sake, Vick has changed. I don't really have a problem with him playing. the NFL is home to all sorts of deviant losers.

But the whole "we care more about dogs than people" thing is a complete fallacy created by the people who get all holier than thou about how they feel we are "goofy" about our pets.

This is a good post. I love my dogs a lot, and I'd beat the hell out of anyone who tried to hurt them. But Vick hasn't slipped back into the dogfighting culture up to this point. And if he never does? Then I would think it's relavtively safe to say that he made an effort to change his life. Now if he DOES fall back into it, and hasn't changed, then my faith was misplaced. But I would rather see the good in people and be dissappointed now and again, rather than always see the worst, and be surprised when somebody turns out to be good.
