Meyer to RS

but he was dragon before then. hummm, wonder if he'll be able to set the HN record for alts. we can always look for the commas,,,,,

wonder if he's still looking for a double-double out of Gabe?

How do you remember that? You just got here....

Meyer would have gotten essetially zero playing time this season. In the long run this is going to be a vital move as he is big enough to play both the PF/C position, look for him to get stronger first and foremost and then being able to play as hard as he wants in practice this season without worry of injury. He and Utoff can really push people and develop into better players with this year to grow. The logjam at the PF position will work itself out in a couple of seasons and Meyer will be ready to play when his time comes. As deep as Iowa can be this year, they are going to be even moreso next year with the freshman having more experience and adding Meyer/Utoff/Jok into the fold...don't be surprised if Jok redshirts next year and go through a full season of college conditioning.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jok redshirts but I don't expect it. I believe Fran probably would prefer redshirting both Meyer and Ingram. But he really can't redshirt Ingram because we aren't very deep in the backcourt and May seems to be injury prone. I would bet that if Uthoff was able to play this year that Ingram would be redshirting (can't be sure and can't prove but I believe it). I don't think they redshirt Jok because it wouldn't even out the classes any by doing that.

Agree 100% on Ingram/Uthoff situation, the other thing is by not redshirting Ingram, then Fran may not feel that Oglesby had progressed in the way he had hoped...can't prove, but Ingram does seem like the odd man out unless there is and injury.

As far as balancing out the classes, I am not sure Fran cares about that, otherwise why bring in Uthoff and have the potential for a class with 6, or now 5 in it? The reason I say the possibility of Jok redshirting is strictly because of his injury history. If Iowa were able to bring him along slowly by redshirting Jok and brining in three other recruits for 2014 it will four freshman for that year. Also look at the fact of how deep Iowa will be to begin with and Iowa could afford to redshirt Jok.

if Fran gets the talent we all hope he does balancing the classes won't matter, as it is being shown this year having 5 new players does not hurt

I don't mean balance in the normal respect. I mean he probably wants at least 2 in a class. Having a class of 5 isn't a bad thing in today's game but having classes smaller than 2 can cause lots of trouble. Most teams can't have the turnover of a Kentucky and still be solid. You need a core of players that are main guys for 2+ years. We have that set up now, but a class of smaller than 2 (ie next year before the redshirt) isn't good.

if you look at ESPN this is a week class as ussually to be in the Top 25 it takes a grade of 96. this year the grade is just a 89 and to be in the top50 it took a grade of 95 this year it is a grade of 86
this a year where having just 1 scholly does not hurt

I was literally about to post this word-for-word.

What about the possibility of red shirting Ingram next year? With Jok and Uthoff coming in we could do without Ingram for a year to work on an outside shot. He'd be a nice transition player when Gesell Clemmons leave if he could develop like Andre Banks did.

Very doubful as Iowa will be in the same situation as this year once May leaves he has to be available in case of injury. If either Ingram or Jok were to redshirt, me personally, would rather see Jok redshirted due to his past injury history.

6'2 Ingram vs 6'5 Jok who is a better shooter, thats the type of player that needs to play toget experience for When Marble leaves, Ingram is a defensive kid who is a slasher, both have key roles that fits into what Fran wants and uses.
