Memo to Iowa fans: Give Hyde time

The guy was more or less thrown into playing because of the early departure of Spievey. And while I agree that he's going to have to step his game up, I don't think he's been terrible or anything. He's had his moments where inexperience has reared its ugly head, but he's been good at times as well.

As long as the rest of the defense is fine, they should be able to help out Hyde. Besides, it's not like he was the only weak link last week. While he was the one burned on the first long pass, what about Sash and Prater? Pretty sure they're the ones who failed to stop Stonum or Hemingway or whoever that was on the deep pass to the Iowa one-yard line.

Matt Stockton is another cornerback who comes to mind. He started slowly, but ended up being very solid back there for the Hawks...still ****** that he got hurt in that Minny game in 2000 and let the gophers rally. When he went out, our two td lead quickly went away....I know, let it go!

I think Hyde will ultimately be a good one. But here's my problem with him right now.....he just does not play assignment football. Case in point, we are running three deep coverage against Michigan and he notices the underneath guy breaking open and he tries to sneak in there to make a big play/interception and gets burned by a streaking WR for a 50 yd bomb. Young guy or not, you just can NOT try to make individual highlight reel plays to the detriment of the rest of the team. You play your assignment based on what is called and trust that your coaches know what they are doing.
