Melvin Gordon

What a waste... barring huge injuries, the guy is going to spend most of his career cleaning up the garbage against UNLV or riding pine. He's stuck behind Ball and White for all but his Senior year.

Should have come to Iowa City dude.

True, but the # of carries Wisconsin backs are going to see in any given year is going to eventually generate injuries. You can pretty much bet one of those guys is going to be knocked out for a few games at some point this year.

As the #3 back last year, Ball ran for over 900 yards and 18 TDs for Wisconsin. I think Gordon will be fine.

Ball wasn't the #3 last year... he got benched for attitude and being fat. He was the #2 behind Clay who was also fat and off/on hurt. To say he got 900 as a third stringer is incorrect.

Then White was #3 and ran for over 1000 yards and 14 TDs.

You guys got me. I'm sure since their #3 ran for 1k last year it will happen every year. I mean, it's very common right? We should just add Melvin to the list of great RBs right now.

Besides, that wasn't my point. It was that Melvin's outlook looked much better here than Wisconsin in my opinion. He would have had a lot more playing time. McCall wasn't in the picture at that point either.

Ball was 3rd string for most of the season. James White had moved ahead of Ball last year when the season started which then made Ball third string. You don't seem to agree but through the first two thirds of last season look at the number of carries each back had. As for Clay yes he was injured but the carries by Ball went up accordingly as Clay's went down over the last four games as Ball had thirteen TD's and Clay had none.

With the kind of carries that Wisky backs get, he's going to see plenty of action. Plus, Ball is a junior, which means that Gordon takes over the #2 spot as a junior.

And for the record, Ball absolutely dominated down the stretch last year, rushing for 667 yards and 15 TD's in Wisky's final 5 games.

It didn't look better here. At the time he decommitted, he was likely to be behind Robinson and Coker, maybe Coe, and Hampton was still on the roster, plus I believe Wegher was still at Iowa on scholarship but not playing. If anything, he had a better shot (as of the time he committed to Wisconsin) of seeing early playing time there. Its not that I don't wish he was at Iowa, I do, and its not that I hate seeing him at Wisconsin, I do, but I just disagree with your reasoning on this.

Regardless of who the "official" number 3 back was for Wisconsin last year, the fact remains that they were a few yards short of having three 1,000 yard rushers. Gordon will get his chance at plenty of carries.

Who says Ball doesn't go to the NFL after this year anyway? You guys are assuming they both stick around all four years. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ball gone this year and White gone next leaving the starting spot open for Gordon for 2 years.

I agree, Gordon will be just fine and will still get plenty of meaningful playing time as the year goes on.

Its to bad he succumbed to the pressure surrounding him. He wanted to go to Iowa. Oh well, Iowa landed Mccall, Canzeri and Bullock after that decommitment.

I noticed that as well, Lewis seemed to be ahead of him on the depth chart last night and there was another guy that looked good too.
