Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

With these new rule emphasis, offensive players just go all shaquille oneal and plow and bull their way to the hoop. it's total BS!

Yep. Dive into the paint and as soon as you get a body on someone throw up the ball. Automatic foul. Heard someone comment on ESPN about that the other day. He was actually in favor of the new rules emphasis but made a great point, said as soon as the offensive player turns his back to the basket and initiates a power move, he's made the decision not to play a finesse game and the referees need to give defensive players the ability to defend a power move with a physical defensive stance. When a guys is facing up, trying to breakdown a defender and make a move in space, then defenders should be held to a hands-off standard.

Was it me or did it look like White's finger was messed up when he walked off the court

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

officials aint too bad, imo. but if you ask the espnu guys, they are calling it for the hawks. i don't get why they are so in the tank for isu tonight.

nice team play by the hawks!

I guess as long as Niang leads with his shoulder/arm into the chest of a defender, he's allowed to do that. The next time he does that I want Woody or Gabe or Stokes to grab it and pull him down. Get the charge.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

It feels like Iowa is the better team. However, it's the kind of game in which Iowa could lead by 5-10 points the entire game and then get sloppy for a minute or two and lose it. Let's hope they can keep countering ISU's runs and get the big win.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

ISU has made only 4 more FTs than Iowa.

I didn't say how many more they made, I just said if you told me ISU was getting to the FT line that much more, I would have thought that is bad news for Iowa. As it is, we withstood it.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

it's a very fast-paced game, but each team has only 4 turnovers. Hawks outrebounding Iowa St, 25-20.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

ISU is attacking the rim more, that is why they are getting to the line more. They are getting fouled while shooting

Bull. There were times when Basabe and White got mugged at the rim with no call, then they go the other way and the whistle blows from a bump. Heck, Woody got called for a foul for waiving at a rebound.

yup. he was showing it to coach. that was maybe a missed call right at the end.

also, the tb commentary about white "with two hand on the back of the cyclone player should be an automatic foul". bs. they showed the reply while he was saying it, and white barely had one hand on his back. the other was in the air. made the commentator sound like a 5th grade kid just making excuses.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

My favorite cyfan post so far: "Our Offense is BAD and our Defense is Non Existent.....

If things don't change in the 2nd half its going to be an embarrassing loss."

Yep. Also apparently dribbling is optional for Niang. He can take as many steps as he wants. He reminds me of a tap dancer.

Iowa will probably play a little more zone in the second half to reduce the fouls, but I like the way they are playing their man to man D. Iowa State won't stay cold at the line and will likely do better from the 3 line, where they are currently 2 for 10. I hope McCabe can get some points, the Hawks need his offense.

Re: Official Iowa vs. ISU Game Thread

A good majority of the calls against Iowa have been questionable. Niang is allowed to lower his shoulder and truck our guys out of the way, and we stand there straight up and still somehow pick up the foul.

Eh, some ticky tack crap, but not much that I would say definitely WASN'T a foul, except one on Woody swiping at a rebound, getting air and being whistled. But I'm with you on Niang. At least twice he dribbled hard into Basabee, drove him back a good foot and a half with his shoulder and nothing. Once, you say maybe they missed it. Allowing it twice is questionable.
