Mel Kiper Has Riley Reiff #8 on his Big Board

You can't fault a kid for leaving at taking the millions. He's certainly earned. On the other hand, I tend to agree with those that say he sees like the type of guy that might stick around. He's just wired a little differently than the average player.

Either way, it will certainly be interesting t watch it play out.

I would not be surprised either way......Guys have turn down being drafted high and millions of dollars to come back to school Reiff would not exactly be setting a new precedent. Everyone has different goals and different priorities. Tim Duncan and Peyton Manning turned out fine......Andrew Luck's draft status has not changed.

Now this talk about Keenan Davis and Hyde leaving early needs to stop, both are no where near ready to take that next step.

keenan leaving early is just downright silly. Hyde is a different story, he played well last year and this year he's going to lead the big 10 and maybe ncaa in interceptions

anyone watch btn next level? not saying i agree w/ them, but i don't think they even had reiff in their top ten in the big ten to be drafted next spring. i think they had prater at #3. just goes to show the parity, i wouldn't call the guys on those shows 'experts'.

A) He is not a lock down corner.
B) Despite being a starter for a year and a half he still has too many mental lapses and technique breakdowns.

If it was an age issue like Sash/Greene I would agree, but it is not. Why be a mid to late round pick when you can improve your draft status a ton by coming back being that corner that can take away half the field, becoming a more consistent player.

I have been watching it all year. Landis, the NFL scout, has not had Reiff in his top ten Big Ten draft eligible prospects all year. Prater has been #3 all year.
He moved Devon Still of PSU into #1 this week. He has MSU's Worthy at #4.
Crick dropped out of his top ten for the first time this week.
I think Reiff projects to middle to late first round, when you add in underclassmen that Mel does not know about yet. And the bonus difference is huge between late first and early first,so I think Reiff will stick around and go top ten next year.

Understand this, Iowa will already be replacing 2 lineman next year. As it looks right now, the guy to step into each of those spots is NOT ready.

Beyond that, they will be returning perhaps the fewest starters in the conference.

Finally, who would you rather be? Gallery with his big rookie contract, or Bulaga with his ring?

the big difference between mel and the show on btn is mel talks to NFL gms on a regular basis and includes what they say when making his rankings.

I think that being rated #8 just means he's the 8th best player coming out, not that he'll be the 8th drafted. It all depends on who needs what in the draft, and skill and defensive players usually go first, unless there is a no-brainer O-lineman out there.

In all fairness, if Kiper was any good he would work for an NFL team. Not to mention he has no idea who will be drafting #8. Will a team with a solid OL pick an LT if they need a QB or something? No. I'm not saying he's overrated like the guy you're quoting said, or that that poster is better at evaluating talent, just saying that being on ESPN doesn't automatically make you a great talent scout. Not to mention it's less than halfway through the NFL season.

Whole lot of dumb up in this post.

Being #8 on his big board does not mean he thinks he will be the 8th pick int he draft.

Barring an injury, i would think there is no way that he is coming back next year.

ditto. just can't pass up a first round pick. sucks, but that's just the way it is. when it all shakes out he'll probably go 15-25 in the first round and will have a degree from Iowa. another hawkeye first-rounder.

The offensive line could have Scherff,McMillan,Ferentz,Rieff and Van Sloten/Donnal/Boffelli in the rotation next year. That is solid. They might also have top rated talents like Blythe and Walsh playing, or even frosh Ward.

The o-line is our deepest unit,so I am ok with next year.

Again, the difference for Reiff between going #25 in the first round this year and #5 next year in bonuses will be 10 million dollars or more, so i think he stays to get the extra ten million in 2013.
