McNamara Done

Let Shaggy have the reins and show what he can do. Linebacker at QB sounds great. Play loose have fun and stomp the competition in front of us. This spectator is ready.

Chad Leistikow just put this on X:

It looks like Cade McNamara has *probably* thrown his final pass as a Hawkeye. On Legends & Listeners,
@ScottDochterman and I delve into the mysterious QB conversation and the interest surrounding Jackson Stratton's first career start
Good for you. No wild speculation.

I get it. It does not compute with me either, but the beat reporters are saying he is not likely to travel to Maryland, so I guess we will see how accurate the rumor mill is in the next couple days.
It is not unusual for an injured player to not travel.

My people tell me CM practiced with the ones on Monday and looked awful He was told after the practice that he was #2. He didn't take it well.
Now that's a rumor that I can absolutely believe!

Great leaders are not delusional. Can you imagine how bad he would have to be for KF to agree to go to a walk-on transfer over a seasoned starter?? He must have been throwing it into the back of the linemen!

The fact that he cannot see how bad he is playing diminishes his leadership in my eyes. Take your demotion like a man and cheer on your teammates.

This makes as much sense as anything based on the timeline of things...

If this quitting is true what an Fn bitch he is. KF got his ass suspended a game due to bringing him here. Think about that. We can all think of hundreds of players more worthy of him getting suspended a game over before his ass yet he wouldn't do it.

That all said how else should the Cade era end? We'll probably never hear much of a public word again from the guy if he's got a lick of sense. But something tells me he'll find a podcast to run his mouth on so now we wait...

Plus, if the information is true, he was still the backup. Decent chance Stratton could turn the ball over a couple times and CM could get into the game. But just to throw a fit and quit with two games to go? Come on man.

Good one.

My god, to go from leading your team to a conference title and playoffs at Michigan, to losing the starting job to a walk-on at one of the worst offensive programs in the nation. How the mighty have fallen.

Anyone checking the aisles at the Hy-Vee down the hill? See if maybe someone there is tossing loaves of bread around with a coworker while stocking in the bakery department?

I've been thinking about this from CM's perspective. When he led Michigan to the playoffs, he and many others probably felt like he was an NFL potential QB.

Then he gets hurt at Michigan and that could have been the beginning of the end, but he comes back, and he can't get his job back, turns out JJ McCarthy was a pretty damn QB. He sees the handwriting on the wall and isn't ready to give up the NFL ghost.

Then Iowa comes calling, a day early apparently, and CM, KF, Coach Bud and who knows who else, all think CM might just thrive in a new program that really needs a good QB, Iowa. Most Hawkeye fans felt the same way. I know I was happy when he came to Iowa.

So, he goes to Iowa, and it never pans out. Hets injured, twice, and even before he hurt his knee the first time, he never really showed us he had NFL potential. Most athletes aren't going to give up their dream of going pro until the bitter end and sometimes that is slow to come.

So, what happens now for CM? I don't see him having a pro shot as QB at any level. What does that leave him? Coaching or getting out of football, IMO.

Is Resar so bad that he could not be pressed into service as an emergency move to provide some QB bodies?
If he is that bad, one has to ask why Iowa offered him a QB scholarship in the first place.
