A lot of reporting that CM has basically quit the team and won't be traveling this weekend.
LainezWho would then be Stratton's backup?
Correct, from what I read the third string kid is another walkon and the emergency QB is a running back.Lainez
I get it. It does not compute with me either, but the beat reporters are saying he is not likely to travel to Maryland, so I guess we will see how accurate the rumor mill is in the next couple days. That would be truly surprising if Cade 'quit the team'. Not his personality at all. Now, granted, his concussion sounded very serious, but even if he couldn't play he could travel and help with the QBs. He's been a captain all season, for goodness sake.
I like this. Hope the team has the same view. Play loose. Nothing to lose. We still have a really good and experienced defense and hopefully just enough offense to beat a thoroughly average Maryland team.Really this is all much ado about nothing. This season is cooked and it's time to think about next year. The Maryland game doesn't mean squat, Iowa's already locked into going to a bottom tier bowl, just need to hopefully beat nebraska.
We have another year (hopefully) of Sullivan and if Shaggy is decent maybe he's the next guy. He seems to have a more confident attitude like Sullivan and definitely more confident than Petras/Stanley/Hill et al. Obviously they'll try to grab someone from the portal if there's a fit.
If anything this should be a fun last two games to watch because there's zero at stake for this team and we get a chance to maybe watch some cobbled together playground ball with walk-ons getting a chance to ball out. Don't get pissed about it and start whining about a curse or being "snakebit" (I f*cking hate that term), that kind of thing is for nebraska fans.
Laugh at the absurdity of it, cheer Shaggy on, and think about next year.
Hell, I think it's gonna be fun to see what some JUCO hero scout team blue collar dude can do when you let him roll. It's basically taking a go kart racer the keys to an F1 car and seeing how well he can corner it. There's literally nothing to lose other than the sand people beating us, and even that's not going to be a real deal victory for them because we're literally down to one healthy QB on the whole roster and missing our best receiver.
Beating nebraska with a dude they found on the side of the road in Colorado to keep them out of a bowl would be the ultimate Iowa victory. Go Wisconsin.I like this. Hope the team has the same view. Play loose. Nothing to lose. We still have a really good and experienced defense and hopefully just enough offense to beat a thoroughly average Maryland team.
Play loose. Play as a team. Get the W.
I see what you did there. Nicely played.Anyone checking the aisles at the Hy-Vee down the hill? See if maybe someone there is tossing loaves of bread around with a coworker while stocking in the bakery department?
Chad Leistikow just put this on X:
It looks like Cade McNamara has *probably* thrown his final pass as a Hawkeye. On Legends & Listeners,
@ScottDochterman and I delve into the mysterious QB conversation and the interest surrounding Jackson Stratton's first career start
I'm not a Liestikow fanboy, but he normally doesn't put things like that out there without having a pretty reliable source.I think they're speculating.
It's not speculation.I think they're speculating.
