Seen a comment on Facebook off of the USA wrestling site stating how classless the team, fans and particularly McD while he was on the podium. It's obviously a disgruntled fan of a big ten team after Iowa's dominance over thirty years, but was just curious if anyone was there that can comment on what might have happened...

I really hope he pulls it together, he's in a funk and Delgado has him figured out. Will be a real test of heart and character.
 
Who cares if he threw his medal away? It was his and he didn't want it. Maybe it finally sank in that he needs to get it together.

Exactly. He has no answer for Delgado. Maybe it is me but is anyone coaching him up prior to facing Delgado?? You would think after the first loss he would have looked better the second time around and that clearly didn't happen.
 
At this point I can't blame it on Brands. There is no way that he's telling his guys not to shoot and not to be aggressive. There comes a time when the wrestlers have to take it upon themselves to put to use what Brands has been giving them.
 
It's hard to say who's share's the blame, but the head coach is ultimately responsible for the outcome of the program. I truly think the talent is there, just have to bring it out. That is what made Gable great, he took guys like Jesse Whitmer and turned them into nat'l champions.

The crap people are saying about McD is straight out jealousy. I've always looked at him as being a stand up student athlete on the mat and classroom. People are butthurt over thirty years of dominance.
 
Watching Big Ten network, they showed a shot from the 125 podium. Matt left, while others were still on the podium taking pictures. Delgado kind of giggled. The whole throwing away the medal is a little childish, but if that's how he wants to treat things that he's earned, so be it.

Why is that childish? Please explain. I like the move, he's not satisfied and he's going to work his tail off the next two weeks. Please explain what is childish about throwing away HIS medal?

Because it's easier to call a college kid childish than it is to understand that he doesn't care about second place.
 
I'm ok with it....the reality is he hates LOSING more then he loves WINNING. Lets hope 1) Delgado loses before the semis and 2) if not, slow the pace of the match down 3) GET OUT FROM THE BOTTOM!:)
 
unless it has happened to you I don't feel ppl should be criticizing him for throwing it away

2nd place sucks I have no clue where my senior year medal is at for all i know it could be in the trash

I like how you use capitalized letters like I didn't know it was his medal. I didn't say he couldn't do what he wanted with it, get over it. I know Matt thinks second sucks, but I don't think he got second due to a lack of effort, bad luck, or anything within his control. He just got beat by a better (at least for yesterday) wrestler. I would have liked to have seen him act differently. As far as him working his tail off, he's not going to work any harder than he always does. Him throwing away a medal isn't going to put him over the top. Maybe ithis week and a half will allow him to recover from whatever is ailing him, but he's not pulling in any extra motivation, then he's already working with, since he gives 100% everytime anyways.

You don't have it happen to you, to not be able to give an opinion. None of else ever wrestled for the Hawkeyes, I guess we can't give an opinion on their performance? I hope for your sake you didn't throw away your medals. I'm sure it hurt, but it's still a great accomplishment and something to proudly show your kids and grandkids some day.

I have a feeling wrestling is the only sport you would defend this type of behavior in.

Its classless and makes McDonough look like a big baby. If he didnt want the silver then he shouldnt have gotten his *** kicked.

Stop being a cry baby over what a college wrestler did with his own medal. Same goes for pumpdog.
 
for all we know this reported could of went down and took the pic before I know I personally had my hands on a medal


not defending him but don't think its classless like some are saying on twitter

poor sport you could have the argument
