McD vs Robles

it's really hard to say anything about Robles without someone making a big deal about it because of his disability.

However, it's actually a huge advantage to be able to fold your only leg underneath you so no one can get behind for a takedown. It's ridiculous that it's allowed, it's almost impossible to beat him. Yes he's a great athlete but he shouldn't be allowed to do what he does in a match. If any other athlete wrestled that way they'd be disqualified for all the stalling

And there you go - that's why I was worried about this match. You can't wrestle the kid - nothing to grab... he just tucks his leg underneath and if he's got a lead he can sit on it... literally. It's kind of bs. I'm happy for Robles but McD is basically wrestling Molinaro out there with much less to grab.

Has anyone ever seen McD that ineffective?

Not happy at all.

What's the over/under on how many times they refer to Robles throughout the night at the expense of all the other wrestlers?

Just a horrible game plan on Iowa's part. McD went right at him like he does everyone else. You can almost see the look on his face when he felt the power that Robles had. As soon as Robles got the wrist it was over, he manhandled him and McD wasn't able to break free and restart.

Congrats to Robles, save the embarrasing remarks about a one legged wrestler being at an advantage at the highest level of folkstyle wrestling. He worked his butt off and deserves better. If it was such an advantage then he would have won 4 titles.

Good question. I'm not going to find out though as I'm going back to watching hoops.

Damn. Too bad McD can't get a rematch.

I need a beer.

Pin, what years were you wrestling?

No matter what anyone says, you cannot convince me that Robles does not have a HUGE HUGE competetive advantage. He has the upper body of a 160lb wrestler (he benches 375 or something like that). And he can sit on his leg, making it almost impossible to get a takedown. Robles did ABSOLUTELY nothing in the 3rd, but McD simply couldn't turn him, he's too heavy in the upper body. Say anything you want, it's an unfair advantage period.

Probably less than how much you complain about it. As much as i hate the fact that Matt lost, all of this attention is good for the sport.

What, my two comments in this thread were too much for you? I'll get your permission next time.

Say anything you want but only having one leg is not an advantage.

See we can go back and force all you want, how many times has an one legged wrestler won a title?

You can not tell me he has no advantage!!! Upper body stronger than a typical 125 pounders legs, sits on his leg so you cant shoot, his style is basically a 7 minute stall, and the ref will always give the benifit of the doubt to him because all the typical ways of calling things like take downs dont count on him. On the other hand I didnt like how McD went about it. I think he should have stayed on his feet and basically ran around him, making him work to stay faced and pounce when he got out of position. That or just bull rush him and drive him like a football lineman. With his leg tucked he has nothing behind him to stop him from going backwards. He can usually counter act that with using his upper body strength to stop you but if you hit it hard enough he might just plow over to his back. Im so sick of hearing "it is such a great story". Yes good for him, but they way he wrestles is bordering on cheating and just robbed McD of a possible 4-time national champ.
(PS-I know I am probably insensative but I really dont care)

I agree he should be at a different weight class. what does a leg weigh 40 to 50 lbs.
It was a huge advantage for him, not only weight but nothing to grab.

How many has one tried? I bet the success rated of 1-legged wrestlers is higher than 2-legged.

Advantage? How can missing a leg be an advantage? Oh wait the upper body of a 150lb guy. Why do these announcers always act surprised that he is very strong compared to his opponents. He would be at least 149lbs. Plus everything you mentioned. How can people that know something about wrestling not think he has all the advantages.

None most likely - because there probably have been almost none of them.

well you have two comments adn both complaining about espn giving Robles love. A one leg wrestler won the national title, what do you expect them to do? of course it's going to get attention.

I was curious as to why there wasn't an escape and a TD for McD in the 3rd period. I feel the ref needs to ref this wrestlerr a little different than the typical wrestler. I felt there was an escape by Robles and TD by McD on two occasions. More like a 9-5 type score than 7-1

No idea how many have tried, but I know it's only been done once. Plus the guy that did it the one time, had four times to do it and only won it once. Must not be that big of an advantage.

Having only 1 leg is absolutly a HUGE advantage and to think otherwise make no sense. Have you ever wrestled a guy with 1 leg? I can name several wrestlers that have 1 or no legs that actually won titles in High School. Nick Ackerman has Zero legs and won the hodge award along with Cael Sanderson. He was a D3 National Champ.

U don't know much about wrestling if you watched those matches this weekend and dont' think Robles had an advantage. Nothing is going to convince you so we will all be quiet now.
