In fairness to JP (and Lord knows the last thing I EVER want to do is be fair to that Clown), avg attendance in Mac's last 2 years was right around 35k. You can't support a Power 5 conference athletic department with your football team avg'ing those few fans. And the only thing keeping Paw employed there right now is the fact that they are still bringing in north of 52k in attendance. But with facility bond payments needing to be paid on all the debt ISU has taken out to refurbish their facilities, they can't afford to go back to south of 50k again. When that happens, regardless of the buyout, Paw is toast.
Attendance is the reason he was fired, and you can't really argue with the judgment call. The program was stale.
The Coin probably could have eventually had some success at ISUck, especially if he had been given a slush fund to bid on athletic QBs.
