McCaffrey - Two Recruits Likely but Not Three

If it plays out with:

1. Hubbard and Olesani getting on the Hawkeye express this spring.
2. Gesell,Woodbury,Meyer, and another high quality guard next November.
3. Jok and Agau in 2013.

I think Iowa will be on the right track.

Hopefully,if we do not get another pg this spring,it will play out something like this.
Getting Hubbard is a key,as he can help at the guard positions next year, and he will then free up a second scholly in 2013,as a two year player. Plus, he will give them a mature guy the next two years to help our young guys on the court.

Personally, I am in the camp that did not want Marble to play the point at all next year, but in a pinch he can do it. He does handle with both hands better than anyone else besides Bryce,so he probably is the guy. Now, if Hubbard can do it,fine, but I thought at 220lbs,he might be playing the 3 or even the 4...who is he,Magic Johnson?

Lets see how this plays out. Fran has a plan,I trust.

The idea of banking scholarships is painful, but there is no team in basketball that goes 13 deep. So wasting a scholarship on a guy who's going to play zero minutes is pointless. The only reason to do it is if you think it's a guy like Washpun or maybe a big who needs to physically mature that could really benefit from a redshirt year and then be ready to contribute in the next class.

I have zero problem with Fran banking a scholly if it means not wasting it on someone who isn't even going to play. Also, who knows some HS kid will develop and have a breakout season and we have the extra scholly to offer at them. It happens. We don't need to be 13 players deep.

I have no problem with bringing in two guys. Fran and the staff have been working hard on the recruiting trail. It will pay off eventually.....just not soon enough for the fickle Iowa fanbase.

Iowa doesn't necessarily need a PG. They need someone who can breakdown the defense. Bryce was the only guy last year who could beat his guy off the bounce and create for others. Gatens and May struggle with that, Marble showed flashes that he could but I think the staff likes what they see in Marble for him and his ability to handle the duties. Add in Hubbard and they will be ok for next year.

Not nearly as big of a failure as giving ships to guys that are just (luke)warm bodies.

JR Angel anyone? Not to hate on brommer but until his jr and maybe senior season he fit this. Then you have Archie too.

JR Angle doesn't count. Surprisingly enough, I think he was fairly highly recruited.

Yes he was wanted by a lot of teams, but his abilities whether or not underperforming or not didn't fit what we needed.

We need players that fit together, until we can get someone who is clearly gonna make the pros, we can't just recruit someone based on their individual potential, we need to be recruiting on their team value potential.

If Fran doesn't like the quality of PGs left, then I'm alright with possibly having a rough year. Even with a mediocre PG I don't Iowa to make any real noise in 2011. It's not a throw away year, rebuilding takes time and with the already committed recruits from McCaff I'm positive we're on track.

White, Olgesby, Basabe, Carter, Meyer.. I don't think thats a bad start

Nothing about this recruiting year seems to be normal. At this point, if Hubbard would choose us over the bugeaters, I would be absolutely astonished!
