McCaffery tabbed as preseason #B1G Coach of the Year (Beat writer votes)

Big Ten beat writers’ preseason All-Big Ten teams, honors « Big Ten Network

Which Big Ten players will earn All-Big Ten honors in 2013-14? Who will take home the conference’s individual awards? BTN.com recently polled one beat writer from every Big Ten team to seek out the answers. See their 2013-14 All-Big Ten Teams and superlative winners in this post.
Here’s how this worked:
Players were awarded three points for first-team distinction, two for second-team, and one for third-team. The numbers were added up, and the top 5 vote-getters, regardless of position, made first team, the next five second team, the next five third team.
B1G MEDIA FIRST TEAM: Aaron Craft, Ohio State (35 points); Gary Harris, Michigan State (35); Mitch McGary, Michigan (35); Glenn Robinson III, Michigan (34); Adreian Payne, Michigan State (29)

I think Fran as Big 10 COY is a great possibility. Especially if he can finish top 3 and he will deserve the credit for bringing the program back.

A couple of years ago Iowa upset a lot of top twenty-five teams, but last year they were pretty inexperienced. With the added experience, hopefully Iowa will be winning the close ones this year. If they do it should be an exciting year. I can see why some would consider McCaffery as a contender for coach of the year in the conference. The Iowa basketball staff knows what they are doing.

I can understand the preseason all conference teams and what not but I don't see how you can predict the conference COY. In my eyes the award should go to the coach that gets the most out of his team during times of adversity/injury or exceeds expectations the most. That's something that can't easily be predicted. To each their own I guess, glad to see Fran getting some love...

Most fouls that wont be called(player) Aaron Craft, Ohio State (12)

Most punches thrown that will force the game to be stopped and reviewed MSU(12)

Most fights with your own team during a TO MSU(12)

Most butthurt team after Iowa beats them Wisconsin(Uthoff)

I predict neither of the Michigan guys make 1st team.

If Iowa lives up to that 5th Place finish that these same reporters predict, it would be a no-brainer to name him Coach of the Year after last season's 6th Place finish...

I'm a little perplexed here. Are the same writers tabbing Fran as COY the same people who picked Iowa to finish 5th? Cause if so, that doesn't seem to add up.

yeah, kind of weird, huh? maybe they are viewing it more as a "lifetime achievement award" for bringing the Hawks back.

I was about to post the same thing. This pre-season "award" makes no sense.
