McCaffery sees improvement in Hawkeyes
From article:
McCaffery said forward Eric May, who will be a senior next season, has shown improvement after struggling for most of the season with back pain.
Another player who has improved is center Gabe Olaseni, who only played 90 minutes this season in 18 games.
"He's someone nobody really has talked about, but he's done some good things," McCaffery said.
McCaffery and the coaching staff will get extra time to work with the players this summer, thanks to a new NCAA rule. McCaffery said that time will help the incoming freshmen get used to the program.
The focus for everyone, though, will be on defense. McCaffery promised that the Hawkeyes will improve.
"The depth and size we'll have next year will be better than the last two years," McCaffery said. "That will help us defensively."
McCaffery was one of four coaches who spoke at the banquet.
Head wrestling coach Tom Brands was still stirred up over his team's third-place finish in the NCAA national tournament, and not in a good way.
"When you look at what's important, we've got a lot of work to do," Brands said. "We're not satisfied, but I think you can say that every year, whether we win a championship or not.
"It's not lost on me that we can do better. And the good thing is, we know we can do better."
