Not much of an article, but this stuck out.

McCaffery on Gesell, officiating and NIT tickets | Hawk Central

From Article:

SILENCE IS GOLDEN: Iowa’s coaching staff was not happy with the officiating in Friday’s game with the Spartans, especially in the second half.

Asked Sunday if he had contacted Rick Boyages, the Big Ten’s associate commissioner for men’s basketball who oversees officiating, McCaffery said, “Uh, you know what? I’d really rather not get into that.â€￾

All you had to do is watch Fran's reactions especially in the last 10 minutes of the msu game.

His assistants were really having to restrain him. Looking back it is too bad he didnt get a Tech when the hawks still had a 6-7 point lead.

You could tell that when the msu guy was dragging macabe down the floor by his neck in a death hold that would have been broken up in an ncaa wrestling meet, and when Nix traveled taking about 4 steps , and then when woody got called on the phantom foul that Fran was about ready to puke or blow a gasket.

Looking back I almost wish he had been tossed just to make all aware of how bad he thought it was.

Did I see his jacket on the court (picked up by JO and thrown back to the bench)?

I think he gets t'd up if it wasn't the last 10 minutes with so much on the line. Those calls come in first half and he gets at least 1 IMO.

There can be little doubt that in the second half the conference, through its officiating crew, was protecting its interests in having Michigan State and the three other top BTT seeds advance to the semifinals and final so that they got the highest seeds possible in The Dance. There can be no other explanation...

Wouldn't it have been better for the Big ten to get 8 teams into the tourney? therefore really it should have wanted Iowa to win.

I agree. And if that's true it helps prove that he's not just some hot head that can't control himself.

Fran was going to get tossed from that game if we wouldn't have made that little run there in the last minute. He was ready to go off on the refs but he couldn't yet as his team still has a shot. When they got the steal and White made the 3, it ended the chances of Fran getting tossed.

I don't what time it was in the 2nd half, but after Iowa turns it over McCaffery kicks the video board, I thought it would of broken. He was upset obviously for a lot of reasons.

Maybe the B1G big wigs already knew Iowa wasnt getting in with a win over MSU.

Iowa was a longshot. They (and we) knew that. So you protect the name teams going into the tourney, for conference prestige. Iowa not making the tourney would go unnoticed (we haven't been there in awhile).

I wonder if Iowa athletic department contacted the b1g. Not that it does anything but you can't let that crap happen year over year.

Can you explain to me how the conference got these officials to further what you perceive their motives to be? Do you honestly believe the conference would sacrifice getting a team in the NCAA just so the top four teams it would put in would get higher seeds? That sounds rather far fetched to me, to say the least.
