Seth davis should be fired. If there was real journalistic integrity anymore, seth davis would be an assistant manager at mcdonalds
I actually thought the Seth Davis piece was insightful because of the brutally-honest nature of some of the comments. However, the more that coaches get asked if they were the anonymous source, the less likely that this technique will yield honest results going forward.
Anonymous sources making critical comments = Message Board Poster.
Writers using anonymous sources as their sole resource for their degrading articles = classless.
For all I know Davis is the anonymous source.
I don't know which coach said those things about Wisconsin, but they are dead on.
I know some fans are seemingly upset by stories like this, but frankly, this was being speculated about in Wisconsin also, and it is a question I would ask Fran also.
Clearly, with this strong denial, the rumor is put to bed.
I am not bound by Fran's friendship with Bo...I still cannot stand the guy,and his poaching ways.
But, obviously, Fran and Bo have a good relationship.
Evidently,Bo knew Margaret before Fran met her.
Probably trying to poach her...sorry,Bo,you lose.![]()
Wow was that a completely worthless article.
Well, there are 12 head coaches and 36 full time assistants in the league that Davis could have spoken with, for a total of 48. Take away 1+3 from Wisconsin's staff for 44. 43 to go before we get to the bottom of it.
Someone please explain to me how Wisconsin "cheats the sport". That is just a dumb comment from Mr. Anonymous.
The way The Vulture's players grab arms and shirts, flop on any contact, then whine about any perceived foul, he should be coaching the Italian men's soccer team, not Div1 USA basketball. As Davis' anonymous source points out, The Vulture also takes full advantage of the loose, rather poor level of officiating in the B1G. That's why his team generally does not fare as well once it gets into high-level games officiated from crews from other conferences.
Anonymous sources are used in journalism all the time. Sometimes it is the only way to get an honest answer to a question. Do you object to anonymous sources in all journalism, or just sports journalism?
I don't object to their use because they have their place in most/every type of journalism, but when anonymous sources are your sole source for a story then I question the integrity and motives of the writer. Just because sources are anonymous doesn't make them honest. That source could be jealous, have an axe to grind, or just plain mean. In a story like this, if you don't have the guts to have comments attributed to you then don't make the comments. In other words,i if you're a pro act like a pro.
