McCaffery Discusses Possibilities for Open Scholarship

Sure. Meant to post it on here last night when I published it but forgot. Sorry.

I'll have more content coming from interviews I had with players last night.

Sounds like Jones rehab is still progressing nicely.

Fran had some good things to say about Moss, including that he is a really good 3pt shooter. He's the type of athlete I don't think we have seen in several years. FWIW Fran did say he was behind RDM at this point in their careers.

I'm excited about a core of Williams, Moss, and Cook for the coming years.

Fran says Moss is a really good 3 point shooter. That's good to hear.

Good to hear his is quick and can explode toward the basket and finish at the rim.

Do we remember what he said about Oglesby's three point shooting? One of the best he has ever seen.

Really stoked about seeing Jones back. Having the rebounding and 3pt threat is going to help us deal with so much inexperience.

........ would rather hear his is lightning quick and can explode toward the basket and finish at the rim.

Well, it's a good thing Fran said that. :D

I agree. I hope he fully comes back from his injury and show he is even stronger than before. We will need his experience.

We all know Fran can exaggerate. But he doesn't pick out a weak part of a player's game and say it's good. He might say Dale Jones is a great rebounder and great 3 point shooter, but he won't say he is a great defender. That makes me think that the 3 point shot is a bigger part of Moss's game than I thought it was.

A grad transfer, Vital, and the long shot for Moore, anybody else or is Fran just going to bank it for '17?

I think there are 4 possibilities...Moore, Vital, bank it and an unnamed player. Cartwright was a late commit. Williams was a late commit. I'm not ruling out the possibility that Fran has some level of interest in someone we haven't heard about. I have no inside info...just saying he's done this in the past.

I would prefer that he can explode to the basket for the score or pull up for a 15 footer on a regular basis. This has been seriously lacking and needs to be a part of our offense. Three point shooting is nice but we need an all-around guard. Marble had his moments and displayed this ability at times.

But it was already known that that was his game. So hearing Fran mention he's a great 3 point shooter was nice. Like I said earlier, if he couldn't shoot the 3, Fran would just rave about his slashing ability.

Also 15 footers suck. It's the worst shot in the game.

Sure it is. So the role that Bobby Hansen played on Iowa's last final four team was a useless role. Those 13 to 15 footers he made on a regular basis were useless. He was so useless to the Utah Jazz. That's not what their starting center Eaton told me.

Fran wasn't the only one that said JO was an incredible shooter. That came from the mouths of many. He was a great shooter in HS. So much so, that he was a top 150 recruit... He just couldn't perform on the big stage. Unfortunately.

We have a good core group of guys, that could turn out to be a great core group. I would add Pemsl and others too. Definitely feeling it for this new group, and for this team.

If the experienced guys (Jok, Baer, Uhl, Jones, Wagner) can step it up through some hard work, which I think they will, the younger fellas will be able to settle in nicely. Then bring it come B1G season.

The pieces to the puzzle are there. Fran just needs to put it together in the right way and the right time. I think he will. It will most certainly be fun to see! Thank you Fran

Well yea if you're going to be elite at it, it won't be completely worthless. It is just more worthless than being elite at anything else. I'm no math wizz, but I'm pretty sure a 40% 3pt shooter is a lot more useful than a 50% 15 ft shooter.

Not necessarily. What if the 3-point shooter is a stiff who can only get a shot off when he is wide open?
