McCabe...

I'm sure glad to have him back. Watching him drain 3s game after game is very enjoyable. I wish he would pass on a dumb foul here and there but he brings so much to the team I can live with it.

I hope it's okay to say something positive about a Hawkeye player. It doesn't seem to be the norm these days.

Love to watch him play. He is a steadying influence and makes a huge basket many times when it is most needed.....

There are a few of us who view the Hawks in a positive manner.....

McCabe has taken the baton from May and Gatens and Cole. It's a stud senior year in the making.

Way to go Zach!

Marble is the Gatens on this team. McCabe is definitely in the Cole/May mold, and we need a guy like that on this team. That guy that no one will key on, like ever, but will hit the big shot for you when you need it most.

McCabe was my sleeper pick when he was a freshman and although he hasn't been a super star he has done quite well for a player many wanted to through under the bus as a freshmen. I also thought May would play a vital role last season and I am quite happy with the way both players turned out. There is a lot of basketball yet to be played and I am anxious to see McCabe play his senior year in the B1G.

This for sure...great development by seniors in the McCaffery era and Zach has already hit some huge shots...his trimmed down frame is really helping him, too. He's the best three-point shooter on the team right now.

Hate to take away his aggressiveness. Iowa needs his toughness. Ice water in his veins. He is one I would want on the court in crunch time.
If Iowa gets their defense figured out, they will be tougher than hell. Nobody in the country can match their ability to score from so many positions and players. Going to be a fun ride this year.

I have to admit when they recruited McCabe I thought he would be nothing more than a bench player. He has been tremendous for Iowa over the years and if all the players had his heart and effort Iowa would never lose a game.

Call me crazy but I think he has a shot at playing over seas, if he wants to. Euro's love those big guys who can shoot the 3's.

McCabe is a good example of a football player playing basketball. If I remember right he was a pretty damn good QB for Heelan in H.S. You can tell by the way he plays basketball. I think that's why the jury was out on whether or not he would contribute, but he provides a toughness that this team certainly needs.

I remember awhile back some genius was claiming McCabe is not a D1 caliber player. He received serious backlash from most of us. Dude looks pretty foolish right about now.

I love the guy have for years now. But he is boarderline D 1 talant in my opinion. But he is for sure a D 1 player. I think this team will be tough mentelly. Going to Hilton will be good for them heading into the B 10 season Would be so cool to go in there and get a win. Fred has himself a pretty good team

Isn't this a bit of a contradiction? Are you saying talent wise he's not at the D1 level, but because of his effort he is?

I disagree. Right now he's the best 3 pt. shooter on a Top 25 D1 basketball team. Anyone claiming he isn't D1 talent needs to seriously consider what they are saying.

I think he meant that as a compliment and I agree with him. McCabe plays above his natural talent with the energy and passion he plays with. He can shoot, no question about it, but there are good shooters at all college levels that would not make good D1 players. McCabe made himself a good D1 player by how he plays the game full tilt all the time.

Zach has been outstanding. He is about the only inside player the staff can put on the opponent's "big man" and expect to get results. And he can shoot the three-ball reliably.

How much are we going to miss him and Dev next year? More importantly, who fills their shoes?????

Not worried about that, Im just going to enjoy the ride this year

Fair enough. I still don't necessarily agree with this philosophy though. Where do you draw the line? Just like you said there's a lot of good shooters who aren't playing D1 there is also a ton of high effort guys who are playing D1. Effort and intensity can be a major part of a players game. Just off the top of my head... Reggie Evans wasn't the most skilled in any particular area but he's made a nice career for himself in the NBA because of his effort. Is it fair to say he isn't an NBA talent when he's proven he is? Aaron White isn't the most skilled player on the court, but he's one of the best players in the B10 because of his effort. There's a ton of players who fit this mold. I don't think it's fair to say they aren't D1 level players when in fact they have proven that they are. Some players may not be as talented as others, but if they make up for it with their effort and intensity then they deserve to be considered D1 level players because of it. Guess I just think you're kind of slighting them a bit by saying they aren't what they have proven they are.

Thanks, ssckelley for bailing me out. I have been a fan of his from day one. He gets the most out of the talants he has, Plays with heart and smarts. Just not sure how many D 1 roasters he would have made. Im no expert on the subject just always felt like he was playing beyond what most schools would have thought he could. I could be wrong. Love the guy either way
