McCabe Growing Up

Growing up

From article:

"He's really transformed his game," freshman forward Aaron White said. "I watched him play last year, and he's almost a completely different player. He might be a little undersized, but he makes up for it in how he plays."

McCabe said his game is based on confidence.

"I think I have more confidence in myself, which is something I had to work on coming into the season," he said. "And my teammates have confidence in me, because they get me the ball."

And McCabe has shown he doesn't mind mixing it up with opponents.

"I'm down for a challenge every time," he said.

Sometimes, though, McCabe can be too tough. He's had 114 fouls called on him this season - 48 more than fellow forward Melsahn Basabe, who ranks second.

In our house, we have nicknamed him ''The Irish Brawler''...and I hope he honors St Pats weekend with another big game out in Oregon.
He definitely gets on the floor more than any of his teammates, and that is a good thing.
I have always thought of him as Iowa's version of Zach Novak of Michigan...whatever it takes, baby.

I have to tell you...of all the players on the team, McCabe has surprised me the most. If you put a bigger player on him on the perimeter, he can take them off the dribble. If you have a smaller player, he gets you on the block and has an uncanny ability to get the ball on the glass quickly. The other thing is that he's also able to now shoot the three with some consistency. If that area continues to improve, this team is going to be very difficult to defend in a few years.

He just needs to stop the dumb fouls.

as the Muscle guy he reminds me of the old Lakers Kurt Rambis, same type of hard nosed not afraid of mixing it up with the big boys

Not a single one of those fouls against Zach should have been called.....

I have done exhaustive research on the subject and every one of the calls against Zach was unwarranted......

Zebras are ruining the Tournament for me.....

:D

I picked McCabe a year ago to be my sleeper on the team as I could see the fire in his eyes and his relentless determination to attack the basket. Yes, he got a lot of shots blocked as a freshmen but he has learned how to lean in with his body and to bring the shot up behind him to protect the shot. He is only going to get stronger and better at doing this during the next two years. Not bad for a kid that had some on this forum throw him under the bus his freshmen year and earlier this year. Just goes to show that people rush to soon to judge players. The same thing happen to white after his first few games when he made a few turnovers and got snuffed at the rim a few times.

That's how I see it, BigD.....

Zach's footwork has really improved this season, and he approaches the basket much better this season, not forcing his way, and has turned into a scoring threat, and has been a big part of the team's success. I like his three also, not using it much this season, but he can be deadly on occasion.....
