McCabe and White

Anybody else get the feeling that the rest of the conference is going to hate these guys? They are the type of players that you love only if they are on your team.

They dont do anything dirty but are just relentless and scrappy.

White's arm span is crazy, he stole that low bounce pass to the corner near the end of the game. Loved it.

Yes, they'll hate both of them, and it will be fantastic.

They'll call McCabe the "big foul machine/hatchet man" and I'm sure they'll have perjoative terms for White, like, that horrible Gin...word. :)

I love the fire and competitiveness they both bring.

McCabe won't ever be flashy but every team needs a guy like him who will bang with everyone and do the dirty work. He has to be leading our team in taking charges this year too, and a few of those he stood in there and took a pretty good hit when most guys would have dodged the contact.
White is just going to be a fantastic 4 year player for us! Love the way he got down court after that Minny basket and got the fast break dunk.

As others have commented, coaching does matter and going one step further, confidence matters. I think McCaffrey's biggest contribution to the team to date has been telling the kids they are good, capable of competing, expected to compete vs. show up, try hard, take your beating crap under Lickliter.

You see the way guys like White (3 more years) and McCabe (2 more years) are developing...and then add the recruits we have coming in!! Wow... we're gonna be talented and tough... 8-10 deep.

McCabe is 6'7" and guarding the 5 spot in many cases. I gotta be honest... I never thought the line up with McCabe and Basable startings a the 2 big man would work. Marble is such a key at the guard position because he adds heighth and Gatens reboudning has helped a ton.

Whoever is guarding White understand that they will need to bust their *** to get back on Defense or he will burn you!!

Something that must be admitted, I have been extremely critical of McCabe, but I have to give him props for last nights game. He outworked RS3rd on both ends of the floor, not that I think RS3rd is a great player or anything. That said, McCabe and Archie played Sampson the way he should be played, get in his grill on the perimeter as he can't dribble and when he is on the block just lean on him. Long term, I still see Zach as a good role player, but not sure he is a starter. However, there aren't a lot of really good big men in the BIG, so he still matches up well. One thing McCabe does need to do is control himself, I was surprised he didn't get a T last night.

White is a player that just simply knows how to play basketball, plain and simple. White plays his tail off, he doesn't stop moving, he plays solid defense using his length and hits the boards hard. There are just a couple of players that undstand how to read a shot and block out in a position to have a great chance to rebound it, White is the best one on Iowa. He is definitely a player that will irritate the opposition and as he gets more comfortable he will be the key to Iowa's full court press.
