Maybe the NCAA should consider shortening the shot clock...

As much as I usually don't like the NBA, I've enjoyed watching the playoff games this weekend, probably because of the high paced action. A lot of times I get bored with college basketball, especially with slower paced teams, since most of the time they dribble and pass around the top of the key for ten seconds. I think it would help eliminate this and make for a more action packed game if they shortened the shot clock. It wouldn't have to be as low as the NBA, maybe somewhere in between.

Shortening the clock would minimize strategy and offensive sets, and it would be very hard for less talented team to deal with more talented teams. A shorter clock puts more of a premium on isolation players. Unlike the NBA, most college teams aren't full of isolation players, and rely on sets and offensive motion to get points. Teams like KY, KU, TX, and others that recruit isolation players would have a huge advantage over teams that disciplined offensive sets like MSU or WI.

I like the NBA game, but I think the shorter clock works better when talent level is high. Many college teams would really struggle getting good shot with a 24 second clock.

I'd like to see a 30 second clock for college ball. That would be plenty of time.

Interesting. The women (college) have a 30 second shot clock currently. I also think it is interesting that they do not have a 10 second backcourt rule (they do not have to cross half court within 10 seconds).

I think a 30-second clock with an 8-second back-court rule would speed the game up just enough to make it more high scoring without forcing most teams to really rethink their style of play too much.

I actually liked the 45 second shot clock. There were a lot of high powered offenses even when it was that long.

35 is just fine.

The NBA has also stopped a lot of hand checking, which has made the game more fluid and fast-paced. The college game allows too much physical play right now.
