I posted this on another thread (Hawkeye gifts for Xmas) , that was maybe not noticed by wrestling fans. So thought I'd put it on the wrestling site. Actually, just an old feller reminiscing.
Would love to have anything from the "Mike Howard" time frame. In 1951 I took a course called "Games and Minor Sports". We bowled, learned handball, wrestling, and (can you belive it?), badminton. I took this, along with other sports courses because I loved sports, and the grading was very liberal. If I just bothered to read the texts a little, and participated (attended) class, I got an A. Back to Mike Howard. He taught wrestling and was a really neat old man. He taught us the basic moves, takedowns, escapes, rules, etc. We had to wrestle a standard wrestling match: 3 minutes, 2minutes, and 2 minutes. Well, that was about 6 minutes too long, so I found another guy who thought the same, and we agreed to take it easy. Jeez, none of us in that class could have lasted 7 minutes! The good news here is that I learned to appreciate the sport of wrestling and haved loved it at every level, High school, college, olympics, (not pro.) since. If you've read this far, thanks for letting an old man ramble on.
