Max Duggan Commits

Do they have better facilities than we do? Do they have a better fan base than we do? Is their coach paid more than our coach? Why is this acceptable Iowa fans?

Over the past 3 years, TCU's 15 4-star prospects have come out of the following states:

Texas: 11
Louisiana: 2
Mississippi: 1
Kansas: 1

It helps to be near Texas or Florida

I think he probably made the right choice. Hope he does well.
It is a bummer to lose in state talent, but at the same time you want them to have the best chance at success. I just don't think he was the greatest fit for Iowa or Iowa for him.

Can't get them all... Part of the reason he chose not to come to Iowa is probably that our depth chart for the foreseeable future is pretty well set. Secondly I think he wants to use his legs and air it out more than he would at Iowa. He also shot down Nebraska (for similar reasons) and many others. It's still a long ways till the first signing day yet too let's not jump off any cliffs just yet. I was way more bent out of shape missing out on Oliver Martin than I am about this...

So another Iowa kid goes elsewhere. Fine. He gone, Let them talk about him in Fort Worth... Let's talk about people who want to be in black and gold. :) Good luck and good bye

Their coach, Garry Patterson, makes $4.75M annually. Not quite what KF pulls down but the difference is nominal in the coaching salary landscape.

I can't speak to their fan support. It's a small school. Upgrades to their facilities are coming LINK.

One thing I am sure of, their recruiting ground is much more fertile. Dallas does tend to produce more high level prospects than Des Moines.

Watched them play at ISU a few years ago (2015). They were pretty highly ranked and did not have many fans in attendance when tickets were readily available (Rhoads last year). Saturday evening game. and yes, went because spouse is ISU grad and Hawks had already played at Northwestern that day. There were a couple of their fans in front of us and it was weird hearing them say "Go Frogs".

Some high school kids just want to leave Iowa...bigger horizons...brighter future...nothing wrong with setting sights high. Good for them if that is their dream, whatever the profession...

Hope he does well.

Totally understand his disinterest in KF ball as a top flight QB.
How many QBs does TCU have in the NFL right now? Boykin was one, but pretty sure he's done after his latest legal incident.

TCU is a great school to go to if you wanna put up hollow numbers in an offense that does nearly nothing to prepare you for the NFL. But if you want to be a pro QB, Iowa is clearly and demonstrably a better choice.

Lots of top QBs want to become KF QBs...if they don't fall asleep watching tape...
Plenty of legitimate criticisms of this offense, QB play is not really one of them. 3 of our last 4 QBs have been drafted by the NFL, and the one that didn't still put up a 3000 yard, 26 TD season.

Andy Dalton is currently an NFL starter.

I don't know where the path to playing time is easier at TCU vs. Iowa comes from. Iowa's starting job could be open as early as 2019 and will definitely be open in 2020. As of right now, any future Iowa QB's would be competing with Peyton Mansell and Spencer Petras. At TCU, the projected starter right now is Shawn Robinson who is a Sophomore and was the #6 player at his position (24-7) in 2017. In 2018 class, TCU signed their highest ever rated prospect in QB Justin Rogers who was the #3 player at his position (24-7) in that class. Rogers is coming off of an injury, so he'll likely be at the same spot as Duggan is when he gets to TCU in terms of practicing with the team. The path to playing time won't be easy at Iowa, but it won't be easy at TCU either.

Considering cost of living it's hard telling. Texas has no state income tax I'm sure Iowa sticks it to KF pretty good. However living in the Dallas area is more expensive than Iowa City. How much so relative to their income and taxes they pay is anyones guess.

I was going to post this, but you beat me to it. The kid has definitely got some competition ahead of him. I'm just glad we don't have to worry about getting burned by him at Minny or Neb. at this point.
