Maryland 2:30p Kick

Here in the Des Moines area, trick or treating is done on the 30th. Why? Because back in the '30s, the female director of recreation for the Playground Commission (now Parks and Recreation) thought there was too much vandalism on Halloween, so she forced trick or treat night to the 30th. Also made up a bunch of rules to be followed.

Seems like the 2:30 slot always ends up having a run over and we miss the 1 quarter!!!! Hope that doesn't happen this time! GO HAWKS!
You read my mind. It's been really bad the last two years on ESPN for games running over. I live in Tennessee and they never flip it to the Iowa games if the other game runs over. It's really aggravating! The last two seasons I've missed a bunch of the Iowa @ Iowa st game due to baseball going to extra innings. That's the reason I hate the 2:30 your time 3:30 my time game slot. Just curious, do they flip it for you guys in Iowa if the previous game runs over? I've never ask my uncle or my cousins if it does. When the Vols play and gets the CBS 3:30 game, our local Knoxville channel will flip it in our area so we don't miss nothing. Just knowing that we're playing at 2:30 makes me mad already because I know I'm going to miss the beginning of the game more than likely.

Thank God we allowed women to have a say in these types of things! The human race would never survive without their logic and wisdom!

I haven't been able to find anything about it, does anyone know if this is a dress-up game (blackout, be bold wear gold, etc.)? TIA

You would seriously leave a Hawks game during this run to go trick or treating?

Not trying to be facetious, I just can't comprehend it.

My 8 y.o. son (who's going to the game with me) would have a nervous breakdown if I said we were leaving to go trick or treating.

Yes.
Being a dad is way more important than a football game.

Been mulling it over ever since the time switch. I've got a five and three year old who are really excited about trick or treating. They're only kids once, and I don't want to miss that. I'm staying until the last possible moment and getting back to CR quickly.

B1G footprint to ABC. ESPN2 to everyone else. Who calls ESPN2 games at the 2:30 slot?

According to research: Patrick and Cunningham.

Where is Beth Mowins when you really need her?

When I was a kid I would prefer to watch the football game than go trick or treating. If you didn't raise your child this way that's on you.

Finally.....someone who "gets it". Kudos to you, sir!

Thats totally a matter of perspective. Like I said before, if we left the game early for trick or treating my 8 yo would literally think I was the sh*ttiest dad on the planet. If your kids want to go and you're up for it that's cool, but it doesn't mean the rest of us aren't "being dads."

Patrick and Ed C are a good team, Patrick yells almost sometimes but he is in to it. Ed C knows his stuff.

That Becht guy who did the jNW/Nebby game yesterday was good at analyzing but too quiet at times.

I think Beggar's nite trick or treating should be on the 30th as the rebirth of the ghouls who then hang around for halloween.

Mike Patrick along with Ron Franklin for awhile there were the best play by play guys going. Patrick has slipped because of age and well you pretty much know what happened to Franklin.

I don't think anyone said that you were not being dads.

If that's what your kid wants to do, that's great. My response was to the poster that couldn't believe there are those of us who would/will leave early to take our kids trick or treating.

For me, it's an easy choice.

Hawks need to mess up Maryland's trick or treat night. Damn kids need to be home doing something useful like fetching daddy another drink instead of out begging for sweets.

bigjim they don't flip to the game here. I almost start to hyperventilate until it comes on!

Cunningham is good but it seems he regularly spends a portion of his commentary correcting Patrick.
Will have to DVR the game 'cause of trick or treat.

Have you heard the guy who went from B1G to Fox? Gus Johnson? Patrick announces just like that. Gets all excited but is, at times, incorrect and the color guy has to correct.

For those nationally, the other game is Clemson-NC State, which means anyone south of Illannoy, will get this turd instead of Iowa-Maryland.
Fortunate for ESPN2, and hopefully, we don't get Brian Griese. I know his Dad was brutal, and I like Brian, up until the Northwestern game, where he was pitiful.
Brock Huard was very, very good as an analyst, and we rarely hear him, as he's usually on those 10pm CST kickoffs on the West Coast.

Good that means an all day drinking event starting at noon and watching the hawks then pull cooler in wagon while kids get candy. handing beers out to neighbors then go home pass out watching the late Stanford vs Washington St. game regret it all day Sunday..
