Today coach Looper announced her resignation as head softball coach. I hear a lot of good things about Drake coach Rich Calvert, and that he’s a potential replacement. He was an assistant at Iowa from 97-02, and his team went 43-10 this year. He has a lot of in state ties, and should be a good recruiter.

This is great news. Program needs new leadership and a better recruiter. A lot of good Iowa kids were lost for some reason.

I hate to see anyone lose their job but she was obviously not getting it done and needed to go some time ago. NO EXCUSE for all the talent in Iowa that never even got recruited. She may have been there but not once did I see her or anyone else from IOWA at the State Softball Tourney over the years while there were plenty of other D1s there.. When I was an assistant at ICCC I lived out there. Even saw Oregon's Coach there once, how pathetic is that? I remember all the buzz going around when Page Lowrey was a FRESHMAN and Missouri was there after her. She had until the end of the tourney to verbal or else they were moving on. All she did last year was win a National Championship after transferring to OK.

We all know Gary wasn't going to fire her... underwhelming job performance? No problem! Let's get you signed to an extension!

I just hope they get a head coach that understands what makes Iowa different/unique from the rest of the US. There is enough talent in the state for the program to be vibrant again. Any word on if the Whites from Solon would be in the hunt?

I would imagine that Gary wouldn't 'officially' be involved in firing any female employees at this point.

Barta should look into the Kirkwood coach, Joe Yegge. Here is his bio, the guy's a winner..............

"At Kirkwood, Yegge has accumulated a record of 488-99 at Kirkwood. His teams have won a total of 8 ICCAC regular season championships, 5 Region Championships, 5 District Championships, and have placed at the National Tournament three times. Yegge and his staff have been named the NFCA Midwest Coaching Staff of the Year twice.

Yegge has had the honor of coaching 37 NFCA All Americans, 24 NJCAA All Americans and eight NJCAA All-Star Team members. The summers of 2014 and '17, Yegge was selected to be on the staff of the NJCAA All-Star team that played in the Canadian Open International Division, playing national teams from all over the world, including Japan, China, Canada, and Mexico.

Prior to coming to Kirkwood, Yegge spent five seasons as the top assistant at Division I Indiana State University, where he was in charge of working with the hitters. In his time there, Yegge mentored ISU's first player to be named to MVC Tournament All-Tournament team. He also mentored ISU's first ever NFCA 1st Team All-Region Player. During his time at ISU, Yegge coached an offense that placed in ISU's all-time record books for home runs, doubles, base on balls, and at bats.

Before Indiana State, Yegge was the head coach at North Iowa Area Community College from 1998-2002 after serving as the assistant coach for two seasons. While at NIACC, he led the team to its first 30-win season in eight years and was instrumental in helping seven players advance on to four-year institutions. Additionally, Yegge coached 15 all-region selections during his time in Mason City.

Yegge is the NJCAA Softball Coaches Association President and also an active member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, sitting on the Board of Directors, Hall of Fame, All-American Selection committee, and the Recruiting committee.

Yegge, a State Center, Iowa native attended NIACC where he was a member of the football team, and Buena Vista University, graduating from BVU in 2002. He holds a master's degree in physical education from Indiana State University."
