He had a bad night. Michael Jordan had his share of bad nights. So has LeBron, Kobe and Durant. But when the OP comes in saying "the last couple weeks, he's been...." it'd be helpful if he was actually accurately portraying the facts. Marble, prior to last night, had been absolutely on fire for the last couple weeks. Iowa might have been struggling because of the offense's structure during that stretch, you can argue that if you want. But it sure as hell wasn't because Marble was shooting poorly.
Marble has been taking quite a few 'bad/selfish' shots.
For one example, granted there are so many factors that go into a close game, but Marble is, IMO, why Iowa loses so many close games. When the game is on the line: the ball goes to Marble, the defense knows the ball goes to Marble, Marble doesn't give the ball up, and, almost always, the shot is missed.
Marble is really a great first half player. He has carried us at times. My problem with Marble is that he seems to disappear in the 2nd half of games too often. And although he has been good down the stretch of a couple of games, for the most part he has really struggled. Iowa needs somebody to step up and be a leader in these close games. They look to Marble, and so many times, it just hasn't worked. I'm not sure if it's mental, or if he's just tired, or that everybody knows the ball is going to be in his hands, and he's just not good enough to make the plays when the defense is geared towards stopping him. Fran better get it figured out.
I don't blame Dev for Illinois. When you lose to Illinois at home, EVERYONE on the team, and especially the coach deserve the blame for that disaster.
