Marble 9 minutes?

Anybody who saw the game no why? Was he injured? He only had 2 fouls so this doesn't explain it. It looks like from the stats that he was very productive while in there so I can't figure why he wouldn't get more time with the way he has been playing all year. I know Cartwright was really good but why is Stroemer getting any minutes and Gatens shouldn't be playing 37 minutes at this point if Marble is only getting 9.

Yes, I don't think any Hawkeye fan would argue those points. Marble looked really good while he was playing in the first half. Made a 3, drove the lane got fouled and nailed the FT... played great defense... and rode the pine.

It is obvious the team is trying really hard to get Gatens going before B10 conference play starts. But if you are reading this post... I bet you are better than 1-11 shooting behind the arch. Most were wide open shots too.

1. I'm not really any better than that lol.

2. It's not like he was airballing out there (Gatens). He had several that were in and out. We need him to get back in a groove ASAP, and getting him plenty of minutes will do that.

You can get Gatens some minutes but Marble still needs more than 9 minutes. We are playing Stroemer as well and while I am gland Fran invited him on the team in these first 8 games it is hard to justify giving him minutes based on stats. Bottom line with Marble playing as well as he has he needs at least 15 minutes every game.

Fran wasn't happy with his defense. Yelled at him a couple times during the game and ended up pulling him out and he never re-entered the game.

Say what you want, but defense wins games and it looks like you better play it or Fran will sit you on the bench.

My guess is the defense thing too, Gatens was left in not only to try and get him going but because he was playing excellent defense. I still agree with you that Marble should have been put back in but I'm okay with the coach's decision.

However coach did say at the beginning of the season that he wouldn't pull a player just because he makes a few mistakes.........apparently that wasn't written in marble or stone.

I haven't seen many of the games so far, but perhaps Coach has been seeing something in Marble's defense the past couple games. Meaning that he's addressed it in practice, and yet it still persists on the court. I don't know if that's true, but that would explain it. If it's something mental/effort/attitude related, sitting him like that might be a good way to get the message across.

Thanks for that thought, it would make sense. In the couple games I have seen I thought his defense was decent but maybe he isn't rotating like he should and coach is trying to correct it early.

I think you can safely say that "making a few mistakes" and not playing defense might be looked upon quite differently by our head coach. If this is what it takes to get Marble's attention so that he will play his hardest on both ends of the court, I'm all for it.

IIRC, Fran said in his very first press conference if you cant play defense for him you wont be playing a lot.

Now that's the learning experiences I like to hear about...

Not giving up 18 and 12 point leads and giving away a game and just calling it a learning experience.
