50,994 is the biggest attendence in 17 years! anybody that thought the sport was dead it clearly is not! roughly 80 million pay per views at $50 a pop...wow!

the show jerry put on was amazing and glad i got this fight on pay per view. the fight on the other hand was horrible. allllll pacman

this will happen no way they can turn down the money thrown at them..matter of time

Thats what i thought before they both backed out last time. The money will be overwhelming but i think both of them are scared of that fight.

Great thread guys.

I'd love to see Pacquiao fight Mayweather but I don't think Floyd really wants it. If his financial situation is as dire as is rumored he may need to eventually make the fight whether he wants to or not. Also, Floyd's fights are often snoozers because of his style. I think Oscar was foolish to chase him. If someone can bait him into trading I think he can be beat. So far, however, no one has had the discipline to step back and make Floyd step forward. Imagine if someone refused to step in and allow him to counter - the action would stop and the booing would start. Throughout his career Floyd has carefully selected fighters who are beatable but carry some name recognition and can sell PPV and drive the gate (Ricky Hatton is a good recent example). I think De La Hoya was Floyd's toughest test and Oscar was far past his prime for that fight. I think Manny has had a lot of battles and could be at or just past his prime but is the PFP best today and much more dangerous than anyone Floyd has ever fought - so I don't see Floyd being anxious to actually do this. I guess we'll see if the money is enough to make this happen.

Agree with the OP that the sport is far from dead!:)

Great points OldAlum

I do think part of the reason Floyd doesn't want the fight is also because his ego is huge and the possibility that he could lose scares the crap out of him. I know if I were him, going down as the greatest undefeated boxer would be nice. I think Floyd is an egomaniacal maniac who is afraid of tarnishing his record.

I think Floyd is scared of Manny. I ordered the Pacman -Clottey fight and was very disappointed in Clottey. Pacman should've fought Roach and it would've been a better fight. If all Clottey wanted to do was block he should no longer fight. Sad thing is... all Floyd ever wants to do is block also, Manny would dominate.

The all-time PPV record is 2.1 million buys for De La Hoya vs. Mayweather - not sure where you heard 80M, but that's way off - 800,000 is more likely close to the number.

That said, I was pretty impressed at how many seats were sold at the stadium - most big boxing matches in America are held in venues that hold far less. Boxing isn't dead after all!
