Man I hate to admit this

Mainly because I have been pretty vocal of my distaste for women's basketball over the years. But the Iowa women's team actually is more entertaining than the mens' team. I don't know if this is a credit to the womens' team...or shows just how far the mens' team has fallen. I suppose the answer is a combination of both.

All I know, is that I watched the womens' team play the entire game....and then immediately switched it over to the mens' game afterwards. And I couldn't believe how boring the mens' game was compared to the gals. Heck, I was switching the channel back and forth watching Godfather II while the mens' game was on. And I didn't miss a second of the BT Championship.

Man, I hope this failed experiment comes to an end soon(although I know it's not going to). Things just aren't right on multiple levels.

I totally agree and I don't think it has anything to do with the system.

It was just the fact that the women's game was competitive and the men's game was not.

I will only admit this since I can hide behind my screen name, but I agree completely. I'm still trying to come to terms with myself over that....

There is nothing bad to admit about that. Women's basketball is played with more fundamentals...it can be entertaining. I prefer the girls HS tournament to the boys HS tournament each year in Des Moines as I cover both for the radio.

Just because John Wooden said it doesn't mean its true. I don't know how many times I saw poor footwork, or horrible shots, or poor passing all predicated on poor fundamentals.

I like watching the women play but its a myth that women play with better fundamentals.

I don't watch women's BB at all, but gave it a look for a little while.

I saw a double-dribble on a fast break yesterday.

Most women's teams and women try to imitate the men in everything they do on the floor including the one on one play. Wooden's fundamentals statement just is not true, although most teams do play better fundamentals than Iowa's men's team it appears.

You should have watched longer, you would have seen all 5 players moving at the same time on offense leading to a layup for the Hawks, it was a thing of beauty. I was shocked when I didn't see much standing around and heaving up a 30 foot shot as the shot clock was about to expire by the Hawks for most of the game.

Iowa women > Iowa men

As far as entertainment. I watched the entire Womens game, and about 10 minutes of the first half of the mens game.

I could have watched girl's 6-on-6 all day long.

Women's 5-on-5 is just not entertaining to me. I keep trying it, but it doesn't stick...

And actually saw a coach coaching...IE drawing out plays, giving instructions. Not sitting on the bench with his face in his hands.

This. I think this is why I felt like I was watching an inner squad scrimmage when I turned the mens' game on. No movement and lazy passes. No cutting to the basket.

The reason I feel bad about this is....
1. I have been quite vocal about how boring womens' basketball is.
2. It should never be this way. Womens' ball should NEVER be more entertaining or exciting than the mens' team. I don't care what the records are who what they are playing for.

Just my opinion.

It's pretty simple.... there would be no argument if the Iowa men's team was competitive on the road.

I didn't follow the women's team at all this season. I didn't have any interest in the women's team until this past weekend in the BTT.

With that being said, the women's game was much more entertaining than the mens. It has nothing to do with the system.... its about competing and/or winning.

The women's team fought hard the entire game and by the time I turned it over to the men's game they were already out of it.

The women play hard, with passion, attack the basket, have a inside out game, move with purpose(both on O and D), and adjust to the other team's approach and changes, whats not to like? Now, with the mens team, where does any of that take place? And yes, one coach takes credit for the success and the other for the massive failure.

For once in my lifetime I'm kind of excited for the Women's Tourney. I like the style the Hawkeye women play and the energy they bring to the court.

I know it's Tuesday morning and I should be over this, but I'm still upset over the Big Ten championship against Ohio St. Is there any chance that white trash point guard Ohio St. has could be suspended for her actions on Sunday? Or will the Big 10 do nothing, just like the refs?
