Man crush on Mike Quade

The Cubs don't have the goods to contend with the Cards and Reds, let alone the Brew-Crew. I would imagine, and hope, that they can finish ahead of the Pirates. No manager can change any of that.

The NL Central is going to be extremely average this year. The Cubs can certainly compete with the Reds, Cards or Brewers. 90 wins might take the division this year. The Cubs have a solid rotation, and a possibly terrific back end of the bullpen. Getting Greinke isn't going to solve all the Brewers pitching problems, plus there's a decent chance they move Prince at the deadline to avoid letting him just walk.

Enjoy the honeymoon while it lasts. Good for Quade, but Sandberg earned the job. He's a blue collar Hall of Famer if there ever was one. He went down to A ball and rode the buses to Cedar Rapids and Clinton and Wausau. He worked his way up the managerial ladder and was Triple A Manager of the Year last year. Joe Girardi didn't do that.

Sandberg was snubbed by a GM who should have been fired years ago. Hendry is a joke, and he and Quade are unlikely to make it to the end of the season. Quade led the Cubs to a resounding 24-13 record the last few weeks of the season...against other teams' Triple A call-ups. Excellent reason for giving the guy the job over Sandberg.

I was a Cub fan from 1958 until 2003. Now I love to laugh at the whole franchise. It's mathematically impossible for the Cubs to have gone more than a century without winning a WS, yet they have anyway. Don't expect that to change in your lifetime.

There's so much wrong with this that it's laughable. I know Quade's qualifications have been touched on so I'll nitpick by saying that I don't believe you know what it means for something to be mathematically impossible.

Oh, and this franchise is in trouble if Colvin is part of the long-term solution.

Where is Sandberg managing now? Oh yeah, still in the minors! I wonder why that is? Hendry has made plenty of stupid decisions but this isn't one of them. I'm glad he didn't hire someone he can't fire.

The Central is always average. When is the last time a team won 100 in the division? 2005? I don't see this year as a year the Cubs compete for it. Don't get me wrong, I hope they do, it's always better having the Cubs in the race. I just don't see it happening. So sue me.

I agree that the Cubs don't have it this year. Though I think they will be competitive, and I think the Reds were a one and done. They will be ok, but I don't think they win the central. Also, the cubs won 97 games just 2 years ago. just saying.

The Brewers just don't know how to win. I think the Cubs can win, but they need everyone to be of average production or better. Can't have Rammy hitting .220 etc. They can be good, but don't think they'll be great.

Agree with farmer's OP. Quade is just an excellent baseball man. He showed it in Iowa, and learned even more with 3 years in the bigs. It's his time. I predict he's NL manager of the year and Cubs have a winning record.

As a lifelong Cub fan, I love Ryno dearly. He will get his chance someday. He was very impressive in Iowa.

Hey you have to take extreme measures when your favorite team snubs a guy who spent three entire seasons riding buses in the minors. He's been to Clinton and Cedar Rapids damn it! On a god damn bus! He deserves this job.

Q: How many years has Quade been in the minors? A: a helluva lot more than Sandberg

I love Ryno. He was THE MAN when I first discovered the Cubs. But he was not the right choice. I hope Quade works out. If not I think it'd be great if they consider Sandberg at that time.
