Malick Rucker transferring

Just weird some of the stuff going on with the team. Safety position had always been a strong group but not so recently and to lose a guy who was good enough to get a schollie hurts.

KF certainly isnt filling any voids with Jucos or other teams transfers

That's interesting that you say that. Because everywhere that I've read and all the podcasts I listened to, the secondary has been mentioned as the strongest unit for this team.

But, I guess you're the expert...

The secondary might be the strongest unit for the team (with 3 returning starters), but the post you quoted mentioned specifically the safety position. Which, as of now, is Jordan Lomax and a big question mark...

If you have walk-ons practicing against walk-ons, your team will play like it. Why do you think OSU is so good? Their # 2s are as good as most teams they play. Lose your depth to transfers and the foundation starts to crumble. We all know what happens next.

Its already happened.

You cant tell the difference between Tanner Miller and John Loudermilk vs the safeties KF had from 2000 to 2010, Considine, Sanders, Sash, and several others who made the pros, really.

I am not an expert but I can tell the difference, a big difference in angles taken etc etc.

The secondary as a WHOLE has been mentioned as a strong point for this football team this year. That includes the safeties.

Anothe point; if your concern is "the question mark"… And your argument is about Rucker leaving… What's that say about him not being able to beat out a "question mark"?

Long story short, we don't know what happened in practice or behind-the-scenes. As far as I can recall last year he was put pressing for playing time. Now I just up and leaves?

I will say this tho; The secondary should be strong and deep.

I can agree with you on the bad angles part. Our safeties have been known to take bad angles on occasion. But fundamentally they are pretty sound; and that is a must in this system. You have to be fundamentally sound, as talent alone won't get you on the field. You'll be burnt too much (ie. Nico Law). You can say this about these guys... These safeties do bring the lumber in run support.

As for now compared to the early 2000's; Comparing players now to players who were standout stars at Iowa and went on to have good/great NFL careers is not exactly fair.

In the original post you quoted, i don't think he was comparing players to past players in an attempt to be unfair to the players. He said it in an attempt to point out that a position that used to be a strength with this staff is now a bit of a weekness.

Pardon the terribly worded post, I'm tired and too lazy to try rewording it.

Can you find one thread from any message board that bemoans the fact that Malik Rucker should be playing more minutes, let alone starting? Otherwise, you're just perpetuating discord on this site because this thread is as benign as they come and no one had pointed any fingers or played the blame card.

Yeah right, those kind of threads NEVER happen on this forum.

Not surprised by this transfer at all. Most kids want to play so they seek opportunities to do just that.

It seems like we over recruited the secondary a few years back so this was bound to happen.

I remember KF saying that Parker needed more Schollys for DBs two years ago. Now we're short on Oline depth and DB's are transfering out. Another sign that KF has been asleep at the wheel.

Actaully the o-line depth issue is due to the schollys getting used at the receiver position a couple of years ago. The decision was made to address the need for speed and playmakers. I believe half of those used in that class didn't work out.

But yeah, asleep at the wheel. Fire Kurt, cuz he's stoopid!!

He didn't make the comparison until his response, that's right. And if it's to show a significant drop off, then I'd disagree. Sure there is definitely a drop from before; but comparing the two isn't fair because the previous ones were elite level.

I'd also argue the safety position isn't a point of weakness, but I think we may just be going back and forth on that one. Hahaha!

Analogizing how I read your post, it was like we had 4 OL who were All American's and one RT who was a RSFR. The poster posted about his concern with the RT position...your response was that it would be weird that he'd say that because OL has been mentioned as a strong point. So while the position in question is part of the larger group, that doesn't relevantly the point he made. Doesn't really matter...moving on...

I wasn't arguing for/against Rucker leaving...it happens. I don't know where he was at on the depth chart but apparently he couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, so he bounced. Maybe he couldn't beat out those two guys that are vying for the spot opposite Lomax; in that case he probably made the right decision. But it obviously won't help the depth of the secondary. As with most teams, I think the strength is there if we can stay healthy.

Rucker was passed up by a So and a Walk on RS FR, so I'm not surprised that he is leaving the program. Will probably end up at a FCS school like UNI.
