Malcom Armstead transferring.

A lot of people wanted him last spring I believe. Im not sure he ever got an Iowa offer though.

So Lick was on him first then Fran had to recruit him. Think that probably didn't help. Yeah, he would have been nice to have but Cartwright has proven he is an asset.

Hypothetical here if we went after him or someone similar situation. Don't know how he'd fit in. I'm just not sold on guys with 1 year AFTER sitting a year. Cartwright has a year left so Armstead wouldn't contribute next season (sitting) and you'd have a JUCO or prep play behind Cartwright so then next season that JUCO will be a Junior/Senior or the prep is a sophomore with game experience and have played with team. So do you give a scholarship to this type of guy to provide a 1 year contribution or give it to a prospect that can provide a contribution for 1 year THEN provide an impact for 3 more years?

Over / under on days before ISU is mentioned with respect to Armstead. I can't believe they have another transfer in Clyburn from Utah. ISU will either be in the sweet 16 in 2 years or Hoiberg will be looking for a new gig.

No.

Lickliter recruited him the spring of 2009. Fran did not recruit Armstead for Iowa.
Iowa got Cully Payne that spring.

It was the fiasco that was the Chipola JUCOs that spring.

Does every thread have to turn into this?

Also hypothetical, as who knows if Iowa would even be interested.

I think a scholarship situation like this is actually ideal if you strike out on a good prep PG this year. In that situation, you would live with Marble or Hubbard (hopefully) as the emergency backup PG, then next year the guy who sits out a year is your starter. It lets you bring in a guy in 2012 who can be the backup as a freshman, with the potential to be the starter for the next 3 years.

Obviously if you can get a prep PG this year that you think will be ready to shoulder the load as the main guy in 2012 you go that route, but I'm not sure there's that many of those guys left out there.

Here is the article from Feb 2009 when Lick was chasing Armstead and his teammate Torye Pelham.

Iowa Basketball: Lick' Chasing Chipola Pair

Pelham went to Southernp Miss and played sparingly. He went to Southern Miss with his coach Greg Heiar. The head coach of Southern Miss is none other than Larry Eustachy.

Gary Flowers was also part of that Chipola class and he too went to Southern Miss. He was probably the only player that has done anything at the D1 level from that class.
