Major B1G Upset Opens Door for Iowa

From article:

Through a black and gold lens specifically, few teams are set to benefit from the Bruins' big win as much as the Hawkeyes potentially could, given their own ability to produce. Not only does this scenario poke holes in the Nittany Lions' legendary conference armor, potentially opening the door for an Iowa win in their matchup, but it brings a B1G favorite down from their top-spot throne.

I willing to give PSU a pass and write their loss to UCLA off as a weird fluke. Both team should return to normal next week. Kinda like when Iowa beat Ohio St 55-24 in 2017. The next week both teams reverted to their normal selves.

Anyone who thinks the Hawkeyes have a non zero chance at making the CFP is a complete idiot. Like Velcro shoes idiot.

How do people even spend time reading this crap?
I miss velcro shoes....

Unless you can point me to a game on the schedule where it is impossible for Iowa to win--meaning like you would bet your house, savings, and everything you own against Iowa straight up to lose, because hey, its a lock, why not double your money. Assuming not, then there is a .001 chance Iowa could make the CFP by winning out. To be fair, if we win out, we are in. Two close losses to ranked teams with a win over Oregon? We are in. Its the actual winning all the games part that limits our odds to a Dumb and Dumber level.

Excellent take on the subject of the post. Regardless, with Penn state losing it makes the Hawks situation a bit more interesting. Some people just can’t handle a little positivity.
There's a lot of reach in the piece. Penn St losing does very little for Iowa. One could just as easily argue that it makes things tougher as PSU won't overlook the Iowa game.

Nothing changes. Iowa still has to win out to make the playoff.

I would counter that if there's a chance...how much money would you honestly risk on a bet for Iowa to win?

$0.50?

$50.00?

$500.00?

I don’t think they will sniff the playoff. But it does affect conference standings. The more power teams that have 2 losses is good for Iowa. Penn state wouldn’t overlook the Iowa game if they were undefeated, especially in Kinnick.

Iowa will not win the B1G in my lifetime. That is a bet that I would put a lot of money on. I would almost say that they won’t sniff the playoff in my lifetime, but they might do that once in the next 30 years I suppose.

Conference realignment will continue and that along with NIL make Iowa an afterthought in college football. Getting rid of the divisions sealed our fate in my opinion.

And I think this is how we want Iowa to think. I have no evidence to support this, but I have always gotten the sense that KF teams play a more entertaining brand of football once all of their big goals become hopeless. I think KF's sphincter loosens a bit, and he lets the coordinators and players loose to an extent that he just cannot when he knows there are huge implications to a win/loss.

I predict a lot of improvement and some fun football between now and the end of the season.

The goal now for Iowa is to get to six wins and a bowl game. This is not one of Kirk’s best teams.

Sorry, but that is the way I see it.
I'm not being sarcastic when I say this, but that is Iowa's goal in perpetuity as long as the Big Ten and CFP stay formatted this way.

The B1G and SEC will generally have 3 each every year. We know there's no way Iowa's winning the conference, so that leaves the leftover route. That leftover route isn't as simple as it seems. Not only do you need to have one of Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan to have a down year, you also have dark horse teams like Indiana now, and you can't have a bad loss, even in years where your other losses are against good teams like ISU or Indiana. To make things worse, your "good" losses can be made bad losses pretty quick and you have no control over it, which we may yet see with ISU after getting beat by Cincinnati. If Matt Campbell drops a couple more burnt turds all the sudden getting beat by those wet blankets in Ames isn't so respectable. The stars have to completely align with a whole bunch of things all going right to make the CFP in the Big Ten, and a lot of them are out of your control.

are you older than 13? We won the conference in ‘02 and ‘04. Won the West in ‘21 and ‘23. Albeit tied for conference champs its happened

Yep.

Just accept it for what it is, and learn to take the frickin games as standalone, independent events for god's sake. Yeah I'd love to have beat ISU and Indiana, and I spent an entire weekend and $500 watching them lose. But here's the thing...we were NEVER going to win the conference or make the CFP anyway. Bring on Wisconsin and take it as a singular contest...which it is. Neither of these teams are going do dick in the post season anyway except fight to see who makes the Ron's A1 Muffler Bowl vs the American Chip Clip Manufacturer's Association Bowl.

Who gives a shit? And why?

False. A tie is not a win. It's a tie. If you win something it means you were better than someone else. If you tie someone it means you were exactly the same. No one wins.

Hence why they have 3 separate words...

Win, lose, tie.

If a tie was the same as a win they wouldn't have a separate word for it. Claiming ties as wins is a half notch above a participation trophy.
