Mack Brown

He can coach.

He is like Andy Reid, or Kirk Ferentz for that matter. He wins whereever he goes, he understand the importance of culture, and he knows how to develop a winning one. He has also had issues with game management, like Reid and Ferentz, which leads to the perception that he is a "bad coach." But that is a very small part of the overall picture. These guys don't win year after year by accident. Their shortcomings might help explain why they are not championship coaches (but Mack Brown actually is, of course), but they live the "Culture eats strategy for breakfast" quote.

Would you rather have a genius like Charlie Weiss to give you a "decided strategic advantage," or a guy like Ferentz or Brown who know how to get 100 guys pulling in the same direction?

Or look to the West. Nebraska is a classic example of what you get when you have a team with talent but without a positive culture.

KF never won anywhere else. He was terrible at Maine and worse the his predicessor.

Realistically...he had no credentials as a hc.

Yeah Mack Brown is a great coach and Texas made the mistake of not telling him publicly he had two years to get back to the top before they got rid of him. Brown may have got a little lazy after the natty championship which can happen. They had an Asst Head Coach in waiting but Brown kept hanging on then I think the Asst Head Coach left to take a job. Texas let their program get stale then they fired Brown.

I didnt like North Carolinas choice of a two point play where the jet sweep type motion player was going the same direction and the actual option play they ran as all that did was pull more defenders to the actual play.

Working on Hayden Fry’s staffs was the most important thing KF ever did for his coaching career. It wasn’t just Ferentz who came out of there with success, that pedigree is pretty amazing and it definitely wasn’t an accident.

Agree on that. When I see video of Maine back the I think....what s Iowa doing in those uni s on formation on O and execution

Did not agree with going for 2. You are the home team...take your chance in OT there.
I would lean that way too. Especially at home where the crowd helps.

QB option on the two is a bad call. against a fast defense like that - it ratchets it up to a bad dumb call.

I agreed with the decision, just not the play call.

Playing for OT would have given Clemson a chance to regroup and clean the slate. And who wants to trade shots in OT with a team who has Trevor Lawrence on their side.

Clemson had to be in a state of shock when NC scored late. Best to go for the jugular right then and there. And I'll bet the players were pumped about it too.
