Lute knew you had to be 10 points better than the refs

This is getting old, yeah the hawks looked a little sluggish blocking out and on defense

But Lute Olson's theory is correct (which is why he left for the desert) in that you have to be able to overcome some really poor officiating to win in the big 10.

When I first was watching the hawks in the 60s and 70s teams played position defense with their feet, now it is hack defense.

It has been bump and hack defense since the late 1970's. If you dont have the horses or a stud who can score at will like a Jordan, you are at the mercy and the whims of the refs.

Just. *******. Stop.

We couldn't hit anything from outside, were timid in the half court (at least after Michigan started doing a better job against Basabe), gave up crucial offensive rebounds that Michigan capitalized on, and scored FOUR transition points.

The refs come in somewhere around 12th on the list of things that cost us tonight's game.

I don't have to have watched 50+ years of B1G basketball to know that Iowa did far more to hurt itself tonight than the refs did. We got outplayed in nearly every area that we count as a strength. The refs didn't do that.

Big Ten Official's Comment:

In it the goal of the Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Officials to strive for the highest quality possible in officiating sanctioned events in a non-partisan and non-biased way involving conference and non-conference participants alike. All right, I'm going to level with you all. But what's important now is that you remain clam. There is no reason to panic (Big Ten Official's nose grows an inch long). Now, it is true Iowa has not won a Big Ten Title since 1979 and they don't get a lot of air coverage on the Big Ten Network. But, that has nothing to do with how we officiate games involving Iowa teams. We can assure you that Iowa gets a fair shake by all Big Ten Officials and we review all games to insure the rules and regulations are followed. Iowa is a valued Big Ten Member. (Big Ten Official's nose continues to grow longer and longer, ala Pinocchio). The officiating in tonight's contest between the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa Men's Basketball game had nothing to do with the final outcome. Thank You (A bird's nest is now been fully built on the Big Ten Official's out-stretched nose).

Sincerely,

Dr. R

What is this your 3rd separate thread about the refs? Iowa shot more free throws and they called one more foul on Iowa. Few bad calls, but give it a break, it wasn't that bad at all.

That is absolutely NOT why he left for Arizona. Not even close.

Everyone knows teams get the benefit of home cooking from the officials in college basketball. It's a fact we all are aware of and have to accept. The team knew that going into last nights game! The fact is knowing what you're up against when your on the road you have to have your "A" game from the opening tip to the final buzzer to compensate. We didn't do that.

This......won't win on the road when our Bench only scores 8 Pts. I thought Michigan did a great job taking away the Hawks transition game and forcing us into half court offense.

if you think we lost because of officiating your crazier than a pet coon. Officials were pretty damn good last night.

Michigan was in the right place at the right time, plain and simple, shots, steals, rebounds......$hit happens...time to get up for the Cats and get back on track....

We didnt seem to get a close call all night. But it was just about what you expect in the road in the BT Y ou just have to play through it. By the way Lute left because of the Iowa Fans.
